Jarrod Darden WR transfer from Colorado is now on our roster. Big receiver, but is there room for him to make any impact with a stacked depth chart?
 
6'5 210, We better find a place for a receiver of that size even if he isn't getting constant receptions he can easily draw a double team from his size alone. He Graduated from CU and is coming to Laramie with a final year of eligibility, Anyone have any idea when he got here?
 
yup... redzone.

with this addition, we can get REALLY big in the redzone; which has less to do with speed... and more to do with positioning and size. we could legitimately put out a line like this... maulhardt 6'6, darden 6'5, krill 6'5, and brown 6'3

just having one big body in the lineup for the redzone changes the depth of coverage from the safety... so we shouldn't need to put them all on the field, but we can if we want to confuse the hell out of them.
 
and our trips bubble screen just got another big second level blocker.

put herron, darden, and krill out wide. quick throw to herron, let him find daylight behind those other two... "see ya later!"
 
a trips bubble screen can be a little obvious, especially if we sent that package out. nothing like saying "here comes a screen to the little guy".

but with this amount of size... there are different ways to get the same effect.

line up krill in a three point on the line with herron and darden both on his side of the field... that way you get defensive backs lining up staggered; one playing bump, one deeper playing zone.

smith in shotgun, with Tedder Easton on his hip... then motion Easton towards herron. snap the ball, krill seals middle backer, draden blocks the bump and run, herron releases inside, and Easton blocks the zone db.

the one thing about spread wide receivers, they have to block. having a big body helps... that would be the easiest way for darden to see the field... be a good blocker.

Carbon Poke, not to take anything away from you, but I bet DC has beat you to it with these schemes ;)
I bet DC is loving all the ideas he can come up with with this group of WRs!
 
haaa, yup that's why we pay him that much!

people are curious how to fit him on the field, I obliged... but I guarantee that he has value.

I cant wait for football man. I losing my effeing mind.

The final month before football always sucks!

The Rockies start sucking real bad around this time of the year, so there goes that fun.
Then with NFL training camps, and pre-season coming on, it is just a big tease.
Pokes start practicing tomorrow (maybe it was today) so that should be good!

This is the perfect thing to distract a defense with and just let Smith keep the ball. Nobody's going to dare to cheat to account for him when all those towers are appearing to wait for the ball in the endzone - especially if there's a half-back appearing as a legitimate receiving target as well.
 
I read somewhere that he hasn't caught a pass since his junior year in high school. Never got on the field in Co.
 
I heard he hasn't caught a pass either. I think that Tanner Simpson kid looks pretty good! Encourage him to keep going, reminds me of Mcguffey!

AT COLORADO: This Season (Jr.)-He entered the fall listed second at the 'X' receiver position. He caught three passes for 60 yards in the main scrimmage action, including a 42-yard touchdown pass from Connor Wood in the spring game.

2011 (Soph.)-He did not see any game action, but did dress for six games. He did not have any receptions in the three main spring scrimmages.

2010 (Fr.-RS)-He saw spot action in two games, versus Colorado State in Denver and at home against Texas Tech, but did not have any receptions. He caught four passes for 20 yards in the three main spring scrimmages.

2009 (Fr.)-Redshirted; practiced the entire fall at wide receiver.

Maybe not extremely productive but definitely has seen field time.
 
Seems all of his catches were in scrimmages. He was a non factor at CU what makes you think he will contribute in Laramie? Just another walk on competing for time.

Did CU have an offense?

I think he brings something Wyoming could use....more size to an already deep position. On paper he would be our highest ranked wr (rivals and scout). Maybe a change of scenery is just what he needs.

No harm, no foul IMO.
 
the first padded practice today showed that Darden and Nico Brown can play.

they led the receivers today. Darden caught 2 or 3 tds, and brown had the most productive reception and yardage day.

the two big bodies are really gonna pay dividends for loosening coverage for the other guys.

Sweet. Now Claiborne and Herron won't have to try and play as possession recievers at half the hight!
 
Anyone know why Darden left CU? Surely can't be cause he couldn't crack the starting lineup.
