Is there any chance we could still sign a QB for 2014 season

Odds of us signing someone else?

I am hoping one of the Freshmen step up. I like Capt Kirk, but if that is the QB heading into the season that does not cast much faith in the season. I sure hope I am wrong.

I think Kirk is more comfortable with our current offense than he was in the spread. He looks more poised in a slower paced run first offense. I also think he was way more intimidated coming in for Brett during the CP game. He knew how much the offense depended on Brett and his play making ability and Kirk knew he couldn't contend to those expectations.
To me he has looked very comfortable since Bohl has come in.
I'm not saying he will be the guy, but he will compete for this position a lot better.

I sure hope you are right. From the games I saw of CK, if shotguns were allowed in the War, someone would have shot his passes out of the air mistaking it for a one winged duck.

The folks saying Kirkegaard will be fine exhibit the classic wishful thinking for which Wyoming fans are famous. I know what I saw with my own two eyes and CK, while from all reports a good guy, is unequipped to play quarterback at this level - no matter the offensive system.

And by "unequipped" I mean he can't throw. Period.

If he can't throw.....what does that say for the other qb's........... :coffee:

Like I said, I hope i am wrong. I live 500 miles away and and dont see the practices and such. The eye test I saw revealed some glaring problems. He could have worked through them for sure.

Seems like Bohl has more QBs than he knows what to do with. Plans on throwing all 8 against a wall and see if any stick .

It is not as if the coaches don't know that QB is currently a weak position. Bohl has to play the hand he was dealt when Brett Smith and Jason Thompson made poor choices to leave Wyoming. Going out and signing more quarterbacks in desperation will not help the program long term. We already brought in Aaron Young in such a move. Coffman is potentially waiting in the wings for next year. Yes, we are not set at the most important position this year (QB), but the direction of the program is light years ahead of where it was a year ago at this time.

I think the two most talented are the freshmen....but I haven't seen any of them personally so.......who knows.

I have my concerns about just being able ram it down team's throats.......sounds good but not sure the line is completely ready yet. Camp should be interesting.

Agreed. This year will be brutal at the QB spot, that's just the reality. Hopefully Coffman can fill in for 2015 while the staff either develops one of the current freshman QB's or a 2015 signee.

I'll preface this post by once again saying, I am not saying Craig Bohl is Norm Chow in any shape or form. This is just an observation...

But man....I cringe every time I read that while Wyoming may not have a legitimate QB, this pro-style offense is intended to control the clock. Wyoming, a team that has been whipped in the trenches for years now, will suddenly now be enforcing its will on other opponents.

I remember these same themes and sentiments when Chow took the job at UH. No more Brennan/Moniz? No big deal....we don't need a good QB, we're trying to control the clock now via a pro-style offense. 2 years later, Hawaii fans are BEGGING the AD to get rid of Chow and return to our gimmicky Run & Shoot offense. It was entertaining, and the team wasn't losing.

Just saying....Chow is and never will be as good a head coach as Bohl is. But I've heard this stuff before. Very rarely are non-P5 programs able to enforce their physical will on other teams. Boise, TCU, Utah did it for a brief period, but it didn't stick for them either. This is a very difficult installation, and I hope fans don't bash Bohl the moment his offense scores 14 points in a game where fans expected 42. There may be some bumps in the road.

Just seems odd to me. We assume that it's a given Wyoming will be able to force their will on teams up front, enabling the run game to succeed at a high level to counteract weak QB play. I guess we'll see. That would be an impressive feat on Bohl's part.

Its not about counteracting weak QB play, its making the job a whole lot easier for the QB so he doesn't have to do as much.

And I hope no one is naive enough to expect to score 42 points every game. Those days are probably long gone. But also long gone are the days of the defense giving up 49 points a game.

As long as the Pokes are ahead when the clock runs out, I don't care how many points they scored that game.

There is always a chance, to answer the question. But that chance will expire here in about 3 weeks. Which is cutting it too close. We end up with somebody already enrolled QBing the team this fall.

I don't think Bohl & Staff want to get scammed on another Facebook / Internet recruiting debacle, and may even be more guarded now after the truth has come out.
