Is there any chance we could still sign a QB for 2014 season

I posted this on the other board but nobody posts there after 2:30 in the afternoon. I don't know the recruiting rules well enough to know so I'm asking. Is there any chance that the opening day QB is not yet on our roster? Or are we to a point in the NCAA calendar where our roster is what it is and we have to live with it now?

Is there any chance, any at all, that Bohl could still sign a JUCO guy who had iffy grades or two felonies or something like that who maybe fell off the radar screens of the BCS schools?

I don't believe that bringing in someone at this point would in any way be beneficial. We already have about 10 QBs on the roster that have been involved with the summer conditioning program. I believe we need to evaluate who we have and go with our best hope for this year (which could very well be a true freshman). Also, brining in another QB may have an effect on whether we land Bartlett or not.

I'm sure he could, but I think we've got all the QBs we can handle at this point.

Colby Kirkegaard - Sr.
Sam Stratton - Sr.
Cameron Coffman - Sr.
Tom Thornton - So.
Aaron Young - So.
Austin Fort - Fr.
Nick Smith - Fr.

I understand we currently have a lot of quarterbacks on the roster. Unfortunately, one of them has to play.

I've seen Kirkegaard play a few times, and if none of those other guys can beat him out in spring camp I'm afraid we have a great big shitburger of a problem on our hands.

Three of those QBs were not in spring camp.

Agreed. Captain Kirk doesn't inspire confidence at all.

That game ended the CDC Era imo.
No, the game that doomed DC was the CSU blasting at home. Even the biggest Wyoming homers were giving up on him after that game.

Agree it was the CSU loss that dug his grave. The defensive meltdown at SJSU along with not being competitive with Boise, Utah St. And Fresno were the final nails in his coffin.
Back to the Qb situation. If we can't be competitive with all those Qbs then those Qbs are not D1 caliber players and we are in trouble. I got a bad taste in my mouth for JC Qbs after Young and his camp talked him up as the best QB on the roster and all. Look at how well the kid from Utah St. Did when he stepped in for Chuckie keaton. We need a Qb to step up like that kid.

I knew CDC was cooked when, after the csu game, even BeaverPoke was down on him. When you lose the Beav, you best start packing your bags.

Hell, even JimmyDimes suggested it might be time to move on. Lots of blowouts were tolerated in the DC era, but losing by 30 at home to CSU? No way to defend that debacle. It was so obvious the team basically tuned out the rest of the way.

Let me see, how many big games did Brett Smith actually win? Hmm, almost Nebraska. As good as many contend he is, and I'm still a fan of his effort and ambition. His biggest accomplishment was by far the Nebraska performance and that was a L. I'll go on the record, and bet we get a bigger W this year with a "shitburger" as some suggest with our inadequate line-up of QB's in camp now, than any win since ACS pulled off bigger wins at SDSU and in the NM Bowl against a team that DC in later years ate a shitburger post game and came back for seconds.

When CB and his staff came on the scene it was very late in the recruitin' season and they were put, obviously, in a tenuous situation. They spent their days reviewin' game film from the previous season(s) lookin' at the roster they are forced to deal with as well as film on potential recruits. I chatted briefly with a couple coaches after the Spring Game and 16-18 hour days, 7 days a week, were the norm. How this season shakes out will depend on that film work and how the current roster and recruits buy into and respond to the new program. At this point, imo, "ya gotta dance with the guy who brung ya." I doubt CB will look at anyone with "iffy grades or two felonies." He does not impress me as someone who is lookin' or willin' to win at any cost or at the expense of the players who are already committed to him.

P.S. "S***burger?" Oh puh...leeeeze. Tacky and immature.

I believe one of the ones on our roster will step up and take the starting job and preform decent.(not claiming all-conference but not the weak point on offense). The more time in the program they will get more comfortable. It seems like there was massive improvement from the start of spring ball to the spring game and if that type of improvement continues I think we will find a qb. My bet(based on nothing) is on Thorton.

If I had to pick one right now it would be Kirkegardd. They team practices every day and he is looking the best.
