Is the Shyatt contract finalized

Cheers to all you that said "no way, not even close, he would never consider it, blah blah blah"...LMAO!

Shyatt was being nice and listened to what his old boss and friend had to say. I doubt he ever had intentions to coach in the NBA. If he did, he would have taken the offer.

From what I have heard, Shyatt has no desire to ever be in the NBA. He's not a fan of the NBA game or the antics that come along with players.

There has to be more to this.

It couldn't have taken us three months to get 100,000 in retention bonuses for the assistant coaches.

Does anyone have all the details, because that's pretty f'ing pathetic if all we did was increase the assistants by a couple of hundred thousand after three months?

If I had to guess, the "retention incentives" were a compromise. He probably wanted more for his assitants. Like multi-year contracts for all of them and maybe quite a bit more money. Then they compromised down to whatever "retention incentive" is.

Yeah I agree with this.

I am sure he was wanting more than this for the assistants but they weren't willing to go as high as he wanted so they put into place this "incentive" program. Whatever that all includes or how hard it is to receive who knows. Unless by retention they mean the longer they stay they automatically receive more money.

Yeah still not sure what the term means. Isn't "Retention Incentive" another word for pay. :)

So happy to hear that we've got a long a prosperous future with our basketball team! Shyatt has been nothing but a class act, and the product on the court is something we can be proud of. I hope that he's here until he decides that he's done coaching!

Here's some more information. I still don't get it. How long does it take to extend Duncan a couple of years, raise the assistant pool by 200,000 and get Shyatt a 5000 dollar raise? The answer: three months.

Thank god Larry Shyatt wants to retire in Wyoming.

I really don't think coach wanted any $$ for himself, I believe the $5,000.00 was just to satisfy the fact of not putting anything in for the extension aspect of the contract... most of the hold up in my opinion was to get everything for the assistant coaching staff.. incentive wise is to make sure the keep a competitive mindset to maintain a level of instinct to win the mountain west division.

my 2 cents

Good news for the assistant coaches: they should have more security in Laramie and less desire to leave.

Any time you can add more years to the staff we have is a good thing.

I still feel like we owe Shyatt and staff a better contract in the near future.

Great news! So happy we finally got a deal done. Hopefully we can hold the staff together for many years to come. Can't wait for the future.

More info from Gags....It sounds like there were increases to the budget as well.

More information on the retention bonuses from Keith Kelly on the Sportszone.

The way it works:

If Allen Edwards and Jeremy Shyatt are still on the Wyoming staff on Jan 1st of next season they get a 50,000 bonus each. The same applies for the following season.

Link to live feed from the Sportszone. Mckinney interview is due up this hour and Shyatt interview about an hour from now.

Another interesting tidbit from Keith and that old grumpy guy.....

Larry Shyatt interviewed with, was offered a job in the NBA, and refused it to return to Wyoming. He refused to talk about it. That all happened within the last month. That job was NOT with OKC. Supposedly, it was a dream NBA franchise, sparking speculation that it might have been the Lakers.
