Is it me or.....

Our recruiting was done long ago. Williams scholarship opened up unexpectedly after the season. We haven't luck filling that spot. I don't think Shy wants a late freshman signee, but rather a fifth year senior. That way he has 2 open scholarships for 2016 class, a class that is loaded with high quality kids like Bassett, Peters and Diallo.

I think it comes down to us being late to the party, mostly. TCU has been on Boucher for over a year. We didn't hear Glaze's name linked to us until a few weeks ago. And by choosing grand canyon, he obviously wasn't willing to accept being a role player at a bigger program. He wanted to finish his collegiate career as "the guy".

I think our championship is helping, we've got some big offers out to some 2016 studs. Obviously, I'm not hearing the recruiting pitch myself but on the surface there may be some things from keeping recruits from committing to us such as phase 2 being dropped and shyatt contract talks progressing at a snail pace. I don't think we can assume a conference championship will get us everything we want, but I agree with you that it's frustrating to be striking out on recruits. I hope we either don't fill the scholarship or find a 5th year transfer. There's so much talent in 2016 even just in Colorado I want as many scholarships as possible lol

Definitely think a 5th year transfer would be ideal. Williams appears to have been functionally done by January, so I am sure the staff knew they would need to fill one in the spring, but I think they were hoping to go for a 5th year transfer and you can't really do anything about that until the end of the season when they get their releases and you see who is out there. 5th year transfer big men are such a prized commodity though that it is tough to land them.

The 2016 and 2017 class are where we need to make an impact recruiting. Hopefully it works out and hopefully a poor year this next year does not halt our momentum.

Is our MW championship not helping recruiting like I thought it might

1 conference championship in 16 years isn't going to make a recruiting impact except for people who were already considering Wyoming before. Now if we can get 1-2 more over the next couple of years that will make some noise but one really means nothing at all.

And to be precise, it isn't a MWC championship, it's a MWC Tournament Championship; to many, there is a significant difference between the two.

One comes with a ticket to the dance and the other doesn't. IMO, the season champ is much tougher to achieve. But, the tourney champ gets all the love.

Very true...fortunately, our conference is typically strong enough that winning the season title will all but guarantee a ticket to the dance. With that in mind, I would rather win the season title than the tourney title; as you said, it is the tougher of the two to achieve.

Why not both?

This. I can remember years past making fun of schools that called the tournament championship the MWC title. Now we are doing the same. Its the tournament championship. BVery good accomplishment and is considered a championship but it is not the MWC championship. That is earned in January and February and is a much bigger accomplishment. I want to win another one of these soon.

The more important piece than the MWCT championship is just winning 25 games, increasing attendance, and making the NCAAT (even as an autobid). I think it helps that we got a 12 seed as well. It's not like some 15/16 autobid out of the Big Sky. I think it helps to demonstrate positive momentum to recruits along with the recent facilities investments.

It's not the biggest accomplishment in the world, but we should have more momentum for recruiting now than anytime since 2003. It's important to take advantage of it. McClain totally whiffed on the classes that should have been his best (02-04). Hopefully Shyatt does the opposite.
