Interesting question from a buddy of mine

Who is the highest ranked team Wyoming has beaten since 1980?

I honestly don't have a clue.

After a thourogh review, I have found Wyo beat #12 BYU in 1981, #24 SDSU in 1995, #16 Colorado in 1997 (By Forfeit), and #23 AFA and #12 BYU in 1999.
Since our downfall in 00 we have had some tough close games that we lost near the end. BSU 17-10, 24-14, Utah 22-10, and a few others.

Here's a question i have, Why did WYO and Byu not play in 94 and 95? The WAC 16 was in 96 when we split.

Avctually that would be 1993 & 1994. Reason is because Fresno State joined the conference in 1992 thus making a 10 team league but everyone only played 8 games in WAC play.

We missed UTEP in 1992, BYU in both '93 & '94, and we missed New Mexico in 1995.

Any questions?

Good info. So I take it that win Joe Glenn had over Utah in 2006 was not against a ranked Utes team? Seems like since that @Tennessee win, Wyoming hasn't beaten anyone worth shit in awhile. Especially during the CDC era. Obviously the opportunity to do so has shrunk thanks to BYU/Utah/TCU leaving.

AFA was ranked in 2002 when we beat them, but they didn't finish the season ranked (there is a little known rule in college football that losing to Vic Koenning disqualifies you from consideration for end of season ranking. ;) )

Tennessee was not worth a shit either. That was a bad football team. AFA and SDSU on the road and Fresno in the bowl are probably DC's best wins (Toledo on the road was ok as well). Nothing noteworthy, but same is true of Glenn I suppose.

Except DC has won more games he was supposed to, along with the ones he wasn't, while Glenn won a few he wasn't supposed to but not several he was. I'd say DC has a decent chance at an upset in Austin this Fall.
