Interesting Bartlett quote

I would really like to see this young man come to Laramie, so much hangs in the balance. More bizarre things have happened than this, nobody thought LeBron would return to Cleveland. Oregon is a great program, but if Bohl keeps to his current pattern of rallying the state about Wyo, he may just be swayed. Just so long as he doesn't end up in a Y uni I'm good.
I'm going to have to watch Graham Hunter's interview with Bartlett again tonight at 10:00 p.m. just to make sure I heard the conversation correctly. The twist here seems to be that there still MAY be an opportunity for Bartlett to also wrestle at Wyoming. It sounded like that could be a possibility Tevis/Branch/Bohl could explore and discuss down the road.

I was looking for potential Channel 5 video of the interview, but the site seems to be down right now.

Didn't Vorel tweet that Bartlett said he wasn't going to wrestle in college and concentrate on football. Maybe things have changed, I don't know.
The only other person in a similar position as Bartlett's that I can remember is Troy Dumas. He went from East to Nebraska, started as a freshman -- I believe -- and played several seasons for the KC Chiefs before a knee injury basically ended his career.

Football-only for Bartlett seemed to be the understanding, but Hunter brought up the possibility of Tevis wrestling for the Pokes along with playing football. If I remember correctly, Bartlett said that Branch is all about the Brown & Gold and keeping talented local kids at home. Thus, Branch (and I assume, Bohl) would be open to potential further discussions on the topic down the road.

The crowd needs to be loud and proud on Saturday and, hopefully, the team makes a strong first impression on the visiting recruits, including Tevis. Tevis has mentioned more than once that he has a strong relationship with this staff. Will this be enough to keep him at home?

He will probably choose Oregon and that is fine because when they come to Laramie he'll see why he should have gone to UW.
I'm trying to think of a similar scenario...any non-Jaycee Carroll scenarios where a Wyoming boy, preferably a star recruit in football, had to return to Laramie?

A handful of linemen who made it to the NFL came back to Laramie with BYU and CSU during the Dimmel/Koening era.

Leave for Stanford. Don't leave for Oregon. In either instance he'll be a little fish in a big pond. At least at Stanford he gets a Stanford degree.

Stanford is clearly a better degree to have than Oregon. That said, Oregon is not too shabby if someone wants to take another step academically either. I think both have better academic reputations than Wyoming.

Are there any skill position players from Oregon that have made it big in the NFL?

Again, that Stanford offer is NOT coming. They are stacked with LB commits as is, from players even better than Tevis. They will not be in the mix.

His quote to Scout.com leaves me feeling that his inclusion of Wyoming in his Top 5 is just for show. He seems to be preparing his argument for leaving home already.

I think he'll be a Duck.

Agreed. I can't see him being a Cowboy based on his statements.

I played with Tevis two years ago and spoke with him recently. Your thinking he's a Duck already couldn't be further from reality. The guy has been a Poke fan since he was a kid and he really likes the new staff. But, I know he is trying to take it all in and find the program that is best fit for him, both in football and for a degree. He's a sharp guy and will make a good decision for his future. You can't blame a guy for exploring options in the Pac 12 and Big 10, those aren't opportunities a Wyoming athlete gets to contemplate very often. I know he has already turned down at least one DI wrestling offer and plans to focus on football, but hasn't ruled out wrestling at some point in time.

Good to know. I don't read much into what is written in articles (hell, it was originally published that Bohl had said "No" to the Wyoming job offer). I would love it if Bartlett becomes a Cowboy, but would not begrudge him should he choose say, Oregon.

I have no basis for this, but I don't see how a duck degree would be any better than a poke degree. A Stanford degree on the other hand.
