Interesting Bartlett quote

The following quote is from Tevis Bartlett in a recent Wyoming Tribune Eagle article.

Bartlett has scholarship offers to play linebacker for California, Colorado, Oregon and Utah of the Pac-12 Conference. Wyoming has offered him the chance to play quarterback, while Colorado State has told him he could land at a host of different positions.

“I’m not going to let the chance to play a certain position determine where I go to school,” Bartlett said. “Playing quarterback would be awesome, but the guys who turn down a school like Oregon because they’re stubborn and want to play just one position are making an ill-advised decision.”

Am I reading too much into this? Maybe, but it sure sounds like the Ducks might have the inside track at this point.

He gone....................

Agree. And I don't blame him.

He isn't going to make or break Wyoming football, it isn't like this kid is Peyton Manning or Lawrence Taylor. Further, if he was my kid, I would kick his ass if he didn't go to Oregon (or Stanford when they come with the offer). And I am a bigger Wyoming Football fan than anyone.

I read that article yesterday and thought the same thing as well, Oregon is probably in the driver's seat at this point.

Leave for Stanford. Don't leave for Oregon. In either instance he'll be a little fish in a big pond. At least at Stanford he gets a Stanford degree.

Doesn't look good for the Pokes, which sucks. It is really unfortunate to see homegrown talent leave. You certainly cannot blame a kid for wanting bigger opportunities and brighter lights than Laramie. We'll move on without him and be just fine. Bohl has us on the right track with or without Tevis.

No I don't think you are reading too much into it. Whether he meant it to come out that way or not, he is basically saying that choosing to play a different position at a lower level school is a bad decision. Maybe he was misquoted, but a better quote for him would have been to say "might be making an ill-advised decision" versus "are making an ill advised decision."

Disappointing. But the team will move on and continue to improve with or without him.

My interpretation of that quote is that he won't make a decision of this magnitude solely by the position he would play.

He may not come to Wyo, but I won't be a bit a surprised if he does. There is a long ways to go to signing day, and this young man has his head on straight. He is obviously keeping an open mind and will make the best all-in decision based on the facts and circumstances of each offer.

Good for him. I hope he's a Cowboy but I'll root for him no matter where he ends up.

He will probably choose Oregon and that is fine because when they come to Laramie he'll see why he should have gone to UW.

I'm trying to think of a similar scenario...any non-Jaycee Carroll scenarios where a Wyoming boy, preferably a star recruit in football, had to return to Laramie?

Bartlett will be in Laramie on Saturday.

From Lacock's 8/26/14 article:

"I'm just excited to see the Cowboys in action for the first time under Coach (Craig) Bohl. I'm hoping to see a tough football team that comes out and competes in each of the games they play this season."

"I would love to have the opportunity to play quarterback in college and I think it would be really fun however, I think it's ill-advised to shut doors on other schools that may be a great fit for you as a player, just because you are set on playing one position. I'm a team player so whatever the coach asks me to play, I'll do it," he said.

He went on to say that he appreciates the opportunities the schools provide, but it's hard to overlook the year-and-a-half relationships he's had with some schools.

Others tentatively scheduled to visit Saturday:

Tom Lacock does really good work on the recruiting side for GWG. Really like his efforts.

Only recall Taran Brown from UC Santa Barbara as far as coming back to Laramie but if I recall we didn't recruit him so not really the same thing but not many that leave Wyoming to play for a BCS school and come back.

Ben Stratton, Vomhoff and Oldenburg all to csu for football.

I would really like to see this young man come to Laramie, so much hangs in the balance. More bizarre things have happened than this, nobody thought LeBron would return to Cleveland. Oregon is a great program, but if Bohl keeps to his current pattern of rallying the state about Wyo, he may just be swayed. Just so long as he doesn't end up in a Y uni I'm good.

I'm going to have to watch Graham Hunter's interview with Bartlett again tonight at 10:00 p.m. just to make sure I heard the conversation correctly. The twist here seems to be that there still MAY be an opportunity for Bartlett to also wrestle at Wyoming. It sounded like that could be a possibility Tevis/Branch/Bohl could explore and discuss down the road.

I was looking for potential Channel 5 video of the interview, but the site seems to be down right now.

Keep us posted on tweets and filler. I got my fingers crossed on this Chey-dodge boy. Intelligence, athleticism, and talent are a sure sell to a local venue this kid could provide. We have to win battles for recruits like this, eventually.

Totally jacked this from a very recent Scout article...read into it as you like

Bartlett on Wyoming and Bohl: "They're going to bring in a winning tradition. I think a lot of people around the state are really excited about that. Obviously, you want to see your hometown guy play for your hometown team, so I think that the pressure is there. But I'm not too worried about that. I'm going to make the decision that's best for me and my family and everybody is just going to have to live with it,"

You're jacked about this? Are you reading it like he's going to choose UW? That's certainly not what I read in it...I read it he's leaving and all of us UW fans will have to deal
