Incoming Freshman

I don't know about you guys, but I'm so excited for the freshman to arrive. I just love the mystery of whose going to surprise us in this hastily put together class of 2014.

I want to know what you guys think. Who the studs are and who the stinkers are. I'm also curious to see someone's top 10 of the class.

Well, lets not identify the stinkers. Kinda harsh to label someone a bust before they even get here. :) Let us not forget, one of the more highly-rated prospects Wyoming landed in Adam Pittser ended up not being half the player Brett Smith is.

Yea, he was rated as "3 stars" if I remember correctly. I don't know if Nick Smith was rated or not, but I have high "hopes" for his success here at Wyoming.

I think Nick Smith will be the starter this year

That's his profile. He's the popular pick to succeed. We'll see.....so was Adam Pittser.

It's crap shoot....so I'll randomly throw out OL Richard Bettencourt. Got into school early, Bohl needs OL with good size (6-3, 290 lbs) to build an O-Line that Wyoming can depend on. I'll predict that Bettencourt is the first to show that kind of potential.

I'll also predict that Nico Evans proves to be a big miss by the many schools that passed on him. He'll be a scat back home-run threat in the future.

I don't know if he'll start this year, but he is certainly going to be the best QB on the roster by the end of the year, in my opinion.

that's why he'll start. Bohl is going to put the best talent out there. We all said you need more than a guy who just won't make mistakes at QB, you also need talent. The two most talented QBs on the roster will be here this month one will start and one will redshirt. I think Smith will start

Trying to predict who might have an impact on the team this year is nearly impossible. There are so many factors to consider in addition to the players talent level. Current depth at each position, a players mental ability to internalize complex schemes, and ease of adjustment to a completely new environment all complicate things. For that reason, I'll be honest and say I have absolutely no clue which of these recruits are going to have the biggest impact on the Pokes in the short-term or long-term.

However, I will make a gander at who I see as the most talented football players in this class. Based off of talent alone, I like:

Nick Smith, QB
Robert Priester, WR
CJ Jennings, DB
Alex Bush, LB

Ok I'll take a shot at it. I dont think any of the freshmen get many reps, unless one of the Qbs are undeniably the better player. Here are my top recruits
1.Richard Bentacort
2.CJ Jennings DB
3.Nick Smith Qb.
4.Alex Bush Lb.
5. Nico Evans rb.

Great list. Here's mine

Nick Smith, QB
CJ Jennings, CB
Alex Bush, LB
Brian Hill, RB
Sydney Malauulu, DT

Also Robert Priester is a CB on the roster.

At this level sometimes it's not about putting the best athletes out on the field, it's about putting the player in that the Coach trusts the most.

You have a good point there. But after the spring game I don't think he trust anyone.

Yep...not every true freshman QB will be as special as Brett Smith was. Majority of the time it turns out to be a complete disaster. Cal played their 5-Star true freshman QB right away last season and almost went 0-12. Cal sucks....but still, it's not an ideal situation.

I don't think he'll start this year, and maybe he RS's. But Vega, if he plays this year, I think will be solid.
Now that's a good pick. Saw some recruiting folks saying the Iowa schools would regret letting him slip through.

over the past 5 years, what ive noticed about successful freshman, they all come in with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Look for the player that was passed over, played behind somebody else's shadow...

that is were you will find our break out freshman. because he will bring a work ethic above everybody else in his class.

look at wacha(redshirt), hayes, smith, burns... even acs too an extent.

chip on the shoulder kids, yup

Well, pretty much this entire class falls under that category. Barely any of these prospects had FBS offers, and almost none of them had offers from Power-5 schools. This class is the definition of a "chip on the shoulder" class.

It's weird that no one is talking about Ryon'e winters. This kid has great ball skills for a CB.

The same goes for Tyree Mayfield throw this kid a jump ball for God's sake.

For a rushed class I really see a lot of promise in this 2014 group. I can't wait to see the 2015 group

I don't know who will do well and who wont. But I follow a lot of guys on the team on twitter, and a good chunk of these incoming freshman already have great team chemistry. That is a very good thing and will go a long way in the future.
