Including last night, 66-111 since the 2000 season

I commend the optimism of many regarding the team last night. However, while I agree they didn't quit (I guess), I saw a lot of the same shit as usual - specifically at least one dimension of the team breaking down completely (special teams this night) and another loss.

That Utah State team was not good last night yet they, along with some serious penalty assists from us, held us to a deflected field goal and managed to get their 7th win of the year. They are bowl eligible for 4th strait year - has that ever happened at UW?

Yes it has.
94: 6-6 No bowl
95: 6-5 No bowl
96: 10-2 No bowl
97: 8-5 No bowl
98: 8-3 No bowl
99: 7-4 No bowl

Say what you want, but receiving No bowls in that time frame really helped in getting us where we are today.
We were more than eligible every year and teams with worse records got bowls over us. And guess what. The National exposure, bowl money all aided in those programs doing well. Wyoming went dry all those years. That's enough to affect anyone.

You are right and I do agree. Some serious issues with bowls in general at that point in history. I was at UW in 1996 - some bullshit leaving them out entirely. If I recall, it was the Cotton Bowl (if they would've held on to beat byu) or nothing while Utah went 6-6 that year and bowling.

I hadn't really considered records when there were fewer bowls when I wrote my post earlier - rather was looking at bowl game invites in general.

WYO will always be screwed out of invites. Bowls don't think we'll travel well, and we won't make money for the bowl.
It happened to us in 06. We started 2-5 ended the year 6-6. Beat UNM. Had a winning conference record and UNM didn't. UNM gets the New Mexico Bowl, WYO, well, we stay home.
It will more than likely continue to happen.

96 pissed me off bad. Their were more than half of the bowl teams with worse records than us! And to this day I think we are the only program to make the top 25 (21) and not get a bowl. Excluding teams that were banned from post season.

I completely understand what you're saying, but that was a different era in regards to bowl games. The WAC/MWC up until the 2000's was guaranteed one, maybe two bowls per years. There are many more bowls today than there were in the 1990's. The problem is we haven't been very competitive since 1999, with a total of 3 bowls since. I'm not sure the Pokes have been passed over for a bowl in years they were bowl eligible (except for one 6-6 year).

Which is why I said we went dry. Attendance was subpar. Not much revenue there. Nothing to show for a winning season. It shows future recruits that if you come to WYO, you will be looked over. So I think, not only did Dimel kill us in recruiting. I think having nothing to show a kid was killing recruiting as well. You couldn't say anything positive. Not, "hey kid, come to WYO where you'll be a champion." Or " hey kid, come to WYO where you'll win, just won't get any bowl games or national recognition."
No revenue with zero bowl games...
Who wants to come to a school where you get snubbed left and right?

Yes, it was a different era, but it was the beginning of our end, and has aided in where we are today, hence 66-111 since going 45-25 in those aforementioned years and 0-0 in bowls. And like I said as well, we could easily have had a fourth bowl since 2000, but we were snubbed in 06.
