In 5 years The MWC will be...

I had another great conversation with Robert Gagliardi on my show last night, we touched on several issues, including where the MWC is headed, and where it will be in the short term, as well as several years down the road.

Given the ever shifting sands of collegiate football and the fact that the power conferences are pulling further and further away from mid-level schools...how do you anticipate things shaking out with The MWC?

That's what CU brings, kind of. The only football team that carries the Denver market is the Denver Donkeys. CU is the closest one can get when going with universities.

Will the MWC even be around 5 years from now?

Barring something like what we did to the WAC, I don't see the MWC really going anywhere.

Overall, not much it seems, though it would never hurt to get back into Texas.

Well, the guy has had success before, so I think it is possible. But it will take a few years to build from that mess.

Absolutely, it would be very difficult to have only 1 conference in the western half of the US.

lol.. they don't have that ability to be a Pac12 school.. CU barely carries enough weight to do this.

How Bob Davie got another college football coaching job is beyond me, I don't think he was the right guy for New Mexico.

Will never happen. Why? CSU doesn't have the academic credentials to be in the PAC 12. For whatever reason that is important to the league (note that CU and Utah definitely do, otherwise they wouldn't have been chosen)

In one form or another, yes. It wouldn't surprise me to see a few teams that left rejoin now that AQ status is gone.

It certainly doesn't help things. The teams that are leaving the conference are leaving a power void, which could be filled by the Pokes. However, the conference isn't nearly as prominent nationally as it was 3 years ago before this whole mess started.

As grandiose as CSU's plans may be, they will always be tied to Wyoming, Air Force, and, to a lesser extent, New Mexico.

Absolutely. Mike Locksley destroyed a one proud program in Albuquerque, similar to the way Vic Koenning destroyed our program not too long ago. It will take some time, and Davie may or may not be the one to do it, but the Lobos will be back.

Pac 12 already has the state of Colorado with the Buffaloes. You want two teams that do not have any following from the same state? CSU will have to look elswehere, and the Big 12 isn't too interested either. Heck, CU never did much for the ratings game and didn't travel, and CU has stronger support than CSU so why would Big 12 glance at CSU.
