Improved Offense?

I know some of you are more patient than I, but I personally think its time for DC to put up or shut up. Every single one of the skill position starters on offense will be a DC recruit this year. I'm not expecting to see a top 25 offense given where we were when he came in, but in year 3 I do expect to see SOME sort of improvement on the offensive side of the ball. I don't think anyone who truly takes an objective look at our offense over the past half decade can say anything other than that our offenses have been horrendous. DC was specifically hired with it in mind that he would turn that trend around. I'm tired of seeing triple digit rankings in terms of our offensive output. Hell, at this point, I'd be happy if DC could get our offensive rankings into the 70's or 80's.

With that said, I have a sneaking suspicion that our offense is going to be abysmal again this year. I think DC has upgraded the players at the skill positions (especially QB) and I agree that we have more athleticism on the field than we have in a long time...but I still think our O-line down right sucks. Yeah, I read where DC said the O-line was one of the positions he felt best about heading into fall practice, but I watched these exact same players suck on the field last year and suck in the one spring scrimmage I went to this year. Unless these guys are completely different people who just happened to have the exact same name as last years players, then I'm not convinced our O-line is one iota better than last year.

As far as Gregg Brandon being the savior...I doubt it. Is he an upgrade over Arroyo? Very likely. However, the most important thing in determining how good a team is, is not the coaching staff...its the players themselves. You could bring Nick Saban in and he wouldn't be able to produce much offense with this group of players. First it was Cockhill's fault...then it was Bob Cole's fault...then it was "wet behind the ears" Arroyo's fault. Personally, I think it was a failure in recruiting the entire time.

If there is one thing that will pull us through to a bowl game this year, it will be Adam Pittser. Thought I'd end on a good note!

I agree with what you said.

If we have problems with Texas State and Weber State, we are in for a LLLLLLOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG season.

Hope Burman has Leach on speeal dial should Burman has to fire CDC.

I don't think you give coaching enough credit. Gregg Brandon is heads and shoulders above Arroyo. I think part of DC's problem was giving Arroyo too much responsibility. DC was hired as head coach and he hired Arroyo to be OC....and he wasn't very good at it.

As far as the Oline is concerned, I'll save my opinion until they play a game this year. We've already had two guys come in and steal jobs from former starters. With two JUCO guys coming in, the competition will only get stronger.

The big ? is obviously the QB position, but I thought Smith was more than affective coming in as a yellow true freshman who should have been going to prom, not moving up the depth chart during spring drills.

The summer is for optimism and I feel good about the upcoming season. If I'm wrong, at least I won't feel sick until this fall.

Peace,
