I'm surprised

By the response on here. There are many that just want Dave fired and I understand that. I'm not ready to do that but I understand it. Why can't the guy at least get credit for making a hard decision to fire a buddy and by all accounts a good person? Bo Pelini isn't doing that. He does something and he's "not accepting responsibility and pushing the blame?" Really? These are the two worst defensive performances possibly in school history. He's admitting he made a mistake in a sense by hiring a guy that has never been a successful DC and who was delusional till the end; "We did a lot of good things in the game; but we gave up six long passes, and it just killed us." "It could be fixed on Monday". Seriously? For some he (DC) can do no right for others he can do no wrong. The truth is obviously somewhere in-between. Will it "fix" the defense? Hell no. That will take a year or two. But do you want the delusional emotionless guy or the guy that went into a pissed off rage because of the way we played against CSU? If both end being shitty DCs at least we have the guy that visibly gave a shit and pushed the players emotionally instead of sitting up in the box "making adjustments." Of course it's not all on Tormey, but If we don't give up 37 points in a half and 650 yards in game by playing prevent D then I will take that as improvement. I have no expectations, but I have a little hope that we can at least play angry and with more pride. We have nothing to lose and something to gain in making this change. I'll add I'm torn with the hurry up offense. It built the D a nice lead to play with that they blew. Turnovers also did a number on that. San Jose managed the clock much better than we did that's for sure.

I think Wyoming needs to be proactive and fire Burman. That way, when DC is given another season, if he is not successful, the new AD can make the next football hire. If DC is successful, the new AD can help grow the program further than Burman would ever imagine possible (nor want to work that hard to see if possible).

Agreed 100%. Leaders should never be content. And, everything I hear from Burman suggests he is content with the way things are going. We need a visionary to get us back to competing for conference titles, etc.

Okay, for all you believers in the Emperor's fancy new clothes- this is the first time DC's fired a coordinator mid-season despite similar performances in seasons past. The only difference is this is following a suspension and some pretty obvious attention from the president.

We could bring in the best defensive coordinator money could buy, but if Christensen is unable to change as a HEAD COACH, nothing much will change in terms of results. He is the one constant denominator the past five years. We've changed OC's, DC's, QB's, RB's, WR's, you name it. The same deficits of motivation out of the locker room and the same inability to make adjustments are still there, along with one other factor- the Head Coach.

Agree 1,000,000% Peachy. Burman is a good dude, but extremely out of his league at according to people who envision us as being capable of doing something better. For the good ole boys club he's the perfect man for the job. I tried my best to relay that to Sternberg without just saying "Burman is annihilating the pride and vision out of Wyoming athletics every minute he is on the job." Coaches have survived these adjustments even at midseason. Everyone wanted Bronco out of Provoland and Mack Brown out of Texas. I hope we can do the same. If we don't win 7-8-9 next year with a new DC and the best QB in school history then the winds of change may blow hopefully with a new AD. DC is the common denominator but I think has just enough things going for him for possibly a chance next year and he can thank Brett for that. I'd rather see Burman get fired than DC get fired by Burman by the longest shot imaginable. If DC gets fired and Burman keeps his job and makes a BS hire I will retire from this cruel world.

So Tormey acted like there wasn't a big issue then gets canned.
Burman acts like there wasn't a big issue, and I think he is getting fired.
I do think we give DC a year under the new AD, that way, like previously said, the new AD can make the new hire.
We don't need another hire by Burman. Ever again.

I say get a new guy in here the sooner the better. Do we wait until the team totally tanks(if it hasn't already) and then the new guy has a total rebuild job again. Let's give the new guy a team with an offensive pulse and a good field general, even if it is for just one year. Then the new guy can bring in his own defensive coordinator and not inherit whoever Dave pulls out of his ass. Not to mention he can start recruiting and not inherit whoever Dave recruits. Not saying the players will not be good, only that they may not fit into the style program the new guy will be building. Even if we don't want to rock the boat any more this season, at least let the guy start right at the end of the season to give him some time.
