If we were to make a change at HC, who would be on your list?

Mine would include:

More conventional -

Tim Plough - UC Davis HC
Tim Polasek - NDSU HC
Aaron Roderick - BYU OC (hurts me to type BYU - but he has done well)
Todd Whitten - Tarleton State HC (OC at UW in the 90s)
Jason Beck - Utah OC

Outside the box -

Ed Orgeron
Tim Skipper - UCLA Interim HC
Jerry Neuheisel - UCLA Interim OC

What are everyone's thoughts on Brent Vigen?

I think he would do well. I know everyone wants a complete overhaul but I wonder if that would take a few years to accomplish. Like when Bohl got here. Maybe that is what is needed though.
Vigen knows the culture. Josh gave him a shout out during his halftime speech, and it made me wonder if that is a foreshadowing of what is to come. When he was here he seemed to fit the head coaching mold better than any other coordinator that has been here. I would pick him over Polasek any day.

I was interested in how he would do with Tommy Mellot graduating this year but MSU hasn't skipped a beat. They just won their conference I believe. They do QB run a lot but it seems to work. I think it is what is needed at a place like Wyoming if you want to score points. It neutralizes a lack of talent elsewhere.

I like Jason Beck from Utah as well. That would be an interesting hire.

I wouldn't mind Vigen but I'm hearing he is heading to Oregon State. I also hear that Mrs. Vigen hates Wyoming for the hate (I was admittedly among those that had venom for Vigs) spewed at her hubby.

Vigen
I'm sure he'd say no but Bob Chesney at 1.5 mill/year
Dan Hawkins
Jay Hill (I know i know)
Would Harsin come and be a fit?
I know fau didn't work but maybe Tom Herman?

My number one choice, far and away, would be Jason Eck. We are paying Sawvel roughly what Eck is making at New Mexico, so we would probably need to increase our pay to get him. This, unfortunately, makes him a long shot.

Others I would be happy with:

Collin Klein - Texas A&M OC
Kirby Moore -Missouri OC
Mike Shanahan - Indiana OC

Financially, the only one we might actually have a shot at is Mike Shanahan.

I hated Vigen so much and talked so much crap. But if one’s feelers get hurt by a tame message board we don’t want you here because you can’t deal with adversity

That was very TIC........but knowing what influence Craig Bohl has had on Tom Burman I would be surprised if Aaron's name didn't come up.
I appreciate the TIC reference - that's what I suspected. My biggest fear is that TB retires and they bring in CB - who would be terrible. He would never fire a coach.

I don't pretend to know enough about who would be available. What I do know is it should be someone who focuses on the offense who is hired after an extensive search. Tom Burman is not Paul Roach who was AD and took on the HC role. He also hired Tiller and Dimel. There is no way I trust Burman to pick a new coach if the job comes open.

Paul Simmons - Harding. Best candidate by far to bring in an offense that few teams would be prepared for and that Wyoming is uniquely suited to recruit for and run.

Won’t happen. But I believe Wyoming would become a top G6 team if they brought in Simmons and established a unique identity here that defensive coordinators don’t see every week. It’s a fools errand to recruit the ‘spread’ when Wyoming doesn’t attract the top athlete and every defense sees it every week.

Seems like it could be productive. Svobody woulda been more productive in that system.

It’s interesting. AFA and Wyoming have been competitive in the top 4 of the MWC rushing teams with AFA usually 1st by a long shot.

If this program decides to be a run heavy offense then be a top rushing team in the country. When AFA is over 300 yards rushing a game they usually are winning a lot of games. Being a rush heavy team averaging under 200 YPG in way too many games Bohl style doesn’t win a lot of games against stout teams who load the box when you can’t pass.

And speaking of when you can’t pass, Wyoming and AFA usually compete for 11th and 12th in MWC passing YPG.

If Wyoming is to have a balanced attack then there cannot be any weak component that most defenses can stop. Can’t pass? Better teams load the box and blitz terminating the pass and rush. Even average teams will load the box against Wyoming with enough success to keep them in the game. Only weak teams get beat by a mediocre offense simply because Wyoming plays just good enough defense to hold off the weak teams.

Here’s my list of all the things Wyoming under Sawful does that create a challenge for the opposing defenses:
