If we end up with the dude from Sam Houston I'll kill myself

Just kidding, but I'll probably not renew season tickets I've had for 10 years and will definitely stop my CJC donation.

He is actually a very good head coach!

I would just worry about his recruiting connections to prime areas but from a coaching/development aspect Fritz is top notch. If Wyoming weren't to hire him, he would likely be a Big XII head coach soon enough.

I don't think he's that great of a coach, I think he's been very fortunate to have some good players come into his program the last three years. The Bearkats are not a tough football team, and can't handle being punched in the mouth. Even with a good QB and RB this year they still lost 4 games and barely snuck into the playoffs.. watch what happens when Bell and Flanders leave.

I don't think you have to be a great coach to have good results at Sam Houston. You are almost guaranteed to get great recruits having a decent facilities, decent fan support and being located off I45 between Houston and Dallas.

Central Missouri probably recruited better than anyone in the MIAA when he was there (think Delanie Walker among others)but never rose to the top of the conference (Northwest Missouri, Pittsburg State and Washburn always seemed to get more out of their players). In fact, in Frtiz's 13 years at Central Missouri the team ONLY made the D2 playoffs once (a first round loss)!! Stitt has led Mines to the playoffs more times with far worse players.

But you can't compare the RMAC to the MIAA though. Just ask Fort Hays State University... The MIAA is like SEC of D-II football as the RMAC would be like the ACC. FHSU's teams now are like middle of the pack MIAA but would easily be at the top of the RMAC.

The only thing I don't like about Fritz is he has 0 playing experience and 0 coaching experience at the afa as level.
His positive is he has done well at every level he's been at. But do we want to be the experiment to the top college level?

Off subject: I could see your argument that the MIAA is a better conference, but Fort Hays would not be the top team in RMAC. CSU-Pueblo is a lot stronger, FHS would likely be somewhere 2-4 in RMAC.

Making the D2 playoffs has little to do with conference affiliation as there is a SOS component. The MIAA averages 3 teams per year in the playoffs while the RMAC averages 1. The RMAC also has scholarship ceiling below the NCAA D2 maximum that the MIAA does not have. Making the playoffs 1 year out of 13 in the MIAA is far from good.

And CSUP from the RMAC has been ranked in the top 3 of all of D-2 for almost three years. FHSU would not be at the top of the RMAC. FHSU was rarely at the top of the RMAC when they were in the RMAC.

I understand the hesitation to Fritz. But you don't get to two national championships in any division if you aren't tough. His teams are tough, North Dakota State is just better. I would argue NDSU would out-tough the Cowboys. Fritz inherited a crappy team from a crappy coach and turned them around in short order. I am not saying he is a guarantee to succeed in Laramie, but you could do worse. And Sam Houston State fans love this guy. Nobody wants to lose him...that should tell you something. I don't want to lose him as our coach, but you have to honest with yourself, you aren't going to get Tedford, Tressel, or any other big name to come to Laramie.

I can't wait til we get tedford now.

I call bullshit. Joe Glenn won national championships - and that didn't translate. Mickey Mouse could get the Texas transfers and rejects that SHS gets and win at that level, whoopdie whoop.

And I will be honest, Tedford & Tressel aren't big names. Big names are Sumlin, Saban, Pinkel, and you are right - we are not going to get one of those to Laramie.

I'd say Tressel is a VERY BIG name. But, with the problems that he will bring to the new school, it's less appealing.

I don't consider him a big name, or VERY BIG name - as he is not eligible to be hired, why even mention him I guess. He is like the Tooth Fairy / Easter Bunny of Football Coaches.

Plus, how do we really know he is a BIG NAME - he fucking cheated to win!

So did Chip Kelly, Les Miles, and Pete Carroll.

True, to probably a lesser extent. I hate cheaters. How do we really know if they were any good - as they played the game with a stacked deck and a loaded hand.

I don't think he "cheated." What he did do is prove yet again that many times the cover up is worse that the crime.

So when we are unable to find success, it's 100% the coach's fault...but when another school finds success, it's mainly because the players happened to be good, the coach had nothing to do with it?

Odd.

Technically, he can be hired. But it's a very dicey situation and one in which no school would likely hire him (no coach with show clause has ever been hired).

On a side note: Congrats Back Harlow on post #500!
