Okay.. again, I don't follow basketball closely, but if bigs are such a problem for Wyoming, how did the coaching staff let this guy slip away?

Wyoming boy, tall, starting for a team who has made a few trips to the NCAAs the last few years..
Martin would not help UW at all IMHO. He barely helps the Griz in the Big Sky (10 min/g, 2 pts, 2 rbs) and this is not one of Montana's better teams (RPI around 170 or so). I saw him play once for the griz, but he was a total non-factor against weak competition. It was just one game, but the numbers seem to indicate that is a common performance for him.
I mean, he could help as much as Sellers and all things being equal I guess I would rather have a Wyoming guy wasting away on the bench than a Minnesota guy, but there is no impact on the team performance.
Keep in mind Martin did a prep school year as well so he isn't that young (same year as Grabau and Nance basically). Not sure how his recruitment went, but he was a senior in HS the year Schroyer was fired.
Now, Art Steward is a different story. I agree with you there. He could have helped the Pokes, but that was a combination of Schroyer/McClain and happened quite a while ago.
The only Wyoming player currently in D-1 that could help the Pokes (IMO) is Taran Brown. He was in the same class as Martin and fairly highly recruited. I think if Shyatt had been the coach we might have had a legit shot at landing him, but not with Schroyer (we did offer though). Brown is basically an upgraded version of Haldorson. A little bit thin and a tweener 3/4 that is more comfortable on the arc, but Brown is quite a bit more athletic than Haldorson and can impact the glass. Wouldn't have solved our big man problems, but could be a rotational player taking up minutes as a small ball 4.
