If Larry is done for the season, redshirts are in order.....

I would issue four redshirts next season.

Riley Grabau
Derek Cooke
Larry Nance
Austin Haldorson

I would play next year with youngsters to get them minutes and load up for the following year when Larry is fully recovered. That would let the guys bring in a new era in a renovated AA.

Next years roster would get minutes for all the youngsters. It would suck to watch, but it would be worth it to wait for the following season.

The rotation next year would be from the following guys:

Josh Adams
Trey Washington
Jack Bentz
Jeremy Lieberman
Charles Hankerson
Alan Herndon
Jason Mcmanamen
Matt Sellers
Aaron Tyser
Keonta Vernon
Diontae Jones
Johnathan Barnes

The year after you would be looking at a sweet 16 run with the following senior class:

Larry Nance Jr.
Riley Grabau
Josh Adams
Derek Cooke
Aaron Tyser

Juniors

Austin Haldorson
Trey Washington
Jason Mcmanamen

Sophomores

Keonta Vernon
Alan Herndon
Johnathan Barnes
Diontae Jones
Jeremy Lieberman

Freshmen

There would only be one freshman(replacement for Sellers).

Imagine that roster in two years. You would have tons of post depth, tons of guard depth, and due to the redshirts: experience throughout the roster.

I say do it. Give Nance's knee a year off and set up to have the best basketball team Wyoming has had in years for the kick-off of the new AA.

That's an interesting thought...I don't know if the players would go for that though

I think the players would be an easy sell. Convincing Wyoming fans to be patient for another season wouldn't be an easy sell.

I had thought about this too but unlikely. Would be an interesting approach and would I would support it. Kinda putting all our eggs into one basket. If that that year two years from now doesn't work out, then what? I do think we might need to redshirt Nance. I want him to be completely healthy.

maybe it's time for Trey Washington to quit his sulking on the bench and let's see what he's really made up....Sellers and Halderson, as scary as it is to say, it's time to shine!!!
as for your redshirt idea, I like it, but don't see it happening

If they do have this mega-redshirt year, then do make the Sweet16, we would likely be in a position to re-load not re-build. Why? All the players that would be replacing our star starters, would have had a year of starting under their belt, leading them to significant playing time the next year (hypothetical Sweet 16 year).

As a player I would be insulted to ask to redshirt because one player went down. One player does not make a team, even one as good as Larry Nance. If you ask all of our best players to redshirt what you're really saying is "We can't win with just you guys." That's bullshit. These guys can win without Nance, it's just going to be a lot harder to do.

I firmly believe that we have the best coaching staff in the conference, not to mention one of the top staffs in the country. It showed last night. After Nance went down the crowd and the players were out of it and Fresno went on a run. Shyatt calls a timeout, pulls the team together, and gets the win. I'm concerned that we have absolutely zero depth in the post now (unless Sellers and/or Halderson decide to wake up), but I've got complete faith that Papa Shy will have this team ready to go in every game that we play.

At first I thought this was a crazy idea, but now I think it's actually brilliant! But like Beav said, not sure the players would go along with it. It's so sad to me to see this somewhat promising season shot over one freak injury. Sigh.

Maybe when we reorient the court, the bad juju on the Bailey/Nance end will be released.

I just feel awful for Nance. Great kid. Great player.

While I appreciate the logic behind all of this talk about redshirts and the like, it ignores the fact that we still have a damned good coach, a team predicated on smart play and good defense and a set of guys that have a ton of heart. I refuse to give up on them this year or next and look forward to beating the crap out of CSU in the crapcastle that is Moe B. Jim on Saturday. If I were the Ewes, I would expect a steady dose of lock down defense the likes of which they haven't seen to date. They might consider practicing with vice grips locked on their nuts - just to get used to the sensation that they will experience on Saturday.

The kids will learn from this, right along with us as fans. I know that these kids are not ready to pack it in - they have worked too damned hard. Their coach won't let them...for that matter Larry Nance won't let them. We likely won't win the same way that we have over the course of the year, but I still think we will win this year and next.

Jack Bentz? Really? Geezus.

Kid goes in for 1 minute last night, misses 2 GD free-throws, and gives up a 3 on the D side of his game.

Dafuq!?!?

Sounds great and all, except it violates a pretty fundamental tenet of team-coaching and team-building- it insults the entire team.

This is an opportunity for the rest of the team to Cowboy up and show that they can still win...

I expect to see the same thing for a line-up as we saw after Larry went down last night. Granberry is my guess as who will take Larry's spot in the starting line-up with Sellers seeing PT off the bench.

I appreciate the optimism, but lets face facts. This team is doing nothing without Larry. It may not win another game. We had hardly any post depth before Larry got hurt, much less now. Teams are going to stand outside around the three-pointer and dare us to throw it inside to post players who have very little offensive skill. Theo Ratliff isn't walking through that door....it's Sellars, who couldn't jump over a credit card with a trampoline.

I'm willing to see how things play out before calling it a season. This team is much more than Larry Nance. Larry is the best player, but this team plays great team ball. Larry hasn't been the only guy throwing it down in the paint. And, I think Seller's has some offense in his game...need him to step up on the defensive side. At least is provides us with a big body.

You being the guy that advocates Wyoming dropping to the FCS, I'm sure you'll understand when I say I'd take it under consideration with a crystal of sodium.

Are you of French descent?
