I'd say the fake FG was illegal

If we ran it like Georgia Tech did, it was illegal. GT had a player, who was on the field, run with the group of players heading off the field. However, he stopped short of leaving the field and hence was wide open. Sorry, but that is illegal and DC knows it. GT got away with one and we didn't. This same idea is why you can't break a huddle with 12 guys anymore.

A few days ago...I reported that I thought Arnold came in as a substitution, past the numbers on the field, then reversed out to the sideline. I am not sure that was the case. I have heard he was in the huddle, but broke out early (by himself) and headed to the sideline...still being eligible, and in play.

Regardless though...if DC did in fact clear the play with the white hat, and the white hat gave him a thumbs up, and it was ran as was disclosed, the white hat is to blame. Period.

If Arnold had broke the huddle separetly and headed to his line up position apart from the general exodus that would certainly be a strong arguement that his movements were legal. I wonder if we'll hear some NCAA ruling on this in light of it being used twice now, once legal and once not. Though i know understand the ACC has said GT's use should have been a penalty

Load of BS daPokes. The DC show had about a microsecond of activity before the snap and never showed anything outside the tackles until after the pass was thrown. No way in hell to tell if it was legal or not based on that.

Microsecond? Go ahead and ask any player on the team (like I have) and listen to DC's comments in his press conference and teleconference on it (themtn.tv).

Please don't act like you're a ref to begin with. Those refs sucked nuts. The PAT that we "missed" was right up the middle of the uprights. Bolger never stepped out of bounds on his big run after catch (called out of bounds even tho we scored on that drive)

so keep that BS flag in your pants, dread

Calm down, dapokes, no one is saying that refs were worth a damn in that game. I'm pretty sure Dread was just pulling the brown card on being able to see the legality of the play on the DC show.

This is why this forum is better than GWG. Its definately not inbred and sterile like a closed forum is.

So DaPokes, since you don't make any more reference to the coaches show, sounds like my BS flag on you was a good call. There's no way in hell the clip from the coaches show shows how it could be either legal or not legal. If it was run exactly like GT did it, it was illegal (not called during the GT game but later deemed illegal and a blown call). Coach DC says he ran it just like GT....therefore it must have been illegal. Kudos to him for trying to get away with it.

Actually any fake field goal in college or high school where the holder has his knee down for the hold and accepts the snap is illegal. Essentially his knee is down and he has possession of the ball. This is where a special rule comes in allowing placement kicks for FG' and PAT's after the days of drop kicking were past.

I ran a touchdown on a fake field goal like this in high school http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPvU59TXL7I
You can see that Auburns holder's knee is down, so the only thing that can happen once he has possession is a placement kick. That fake should have been called back. Most officials never notice it for some reason on fakes in College & high school. The holder needs to make sure his knee is not touching the ground when taking the snap if running a fake.

That isnt true.....Rule 4-1-3(b, exception). This rule creates the exception to the ball being declared dead when a player's knee is down touching the ground. The exception applies only to the HOLDER when an offensive player kicks or simulates kicking the ball for a place kick (Field Goal). By rule the ball may be advanced, kicked or passed. Therefore fake field goals are legal in high school and college football even if the holders knee is down. Of course this doesn't speak to the legality of the play Wyoming ran last Saturday just to fake FG's in general

Go Pokes!

I was at the game. The fake field goal was legal!!! The Headlinesman was the most worthless piece of shit for an official that I have EVER seen. He was in the "huddle", broke to the side lines....it was legal. And the officials new the blew it...so, they paid us back with calling a "missed" extra point that was good. For those who were not at the game...this was the reality. The score was not indiciative of the game. The score should have been 40-21...at best! The officials constantly made game changing calls when Wyoming got rolling. I was proud of the team, and more importantly, I was proud of DC. He knew he had to show some emotion and take the flag...if not, this team would have cashed it in (IMHO). New Mexico's woes will continue today with a fired up Wyo football team!
