I won't participate in the witch hunt.

My blood pressure is just fine! I just refuse to accept losing. If people want to close their eyes and make believe 1-5 is a cause for optimism, more power to them. Personally, I'd rather be 5-1. Every team has injuries. Not every team is 1-5 with its only win over a winless Idaho team.

How many teams that have lost their starting QB are 5-1? Injuries is one thing, but any college team that loses its best player will have a rough go at it unless they're lucky enough to have incredible talent in the backup position.

Everyone hates being 1-5, but that doesn't mean you can't acknowledge progress where it's evident.

For one, I don't think this team would be 1-5 if Brett hadn't gotten hurt. Had he not been carted off the field against Toledo I think the Pokes would have won that one. If he played against Cal Poly, I think we'd win it going away. Had he kept his cool in the Nevada game, they'd probably have won that. Had he played against Air Force, I think our chances were pretty good.

Secondly, we seen improvement in the defensive line. They've improved against the run, for the most part. The offensive line is blocking very well.

Lastly, if they could clean up the major gaffes in the secondary, make some headier coaching decisions, and not give up so many 3rd downs, this team would be rolling.

It's just a plain fact that as Brett goes, so does the team. Thompson is a small ray of sunshine, and he gives us a glimmer of hope, but because of his lack of experience we can't expect him to fully replace Brett.

So, if he's pulled because of his health, we have to chalk this season up as a loss and resign ourselves to great struggles the rest of the way out. The football gods weren't with us this year, that's the breaks. That doesn't mean we have to be happy about it, but that may be the way it is.
