Money. Today's news leaves me very underwhelmed and still desperately concerned that were overlooking the real issue. I like the hire. I like the fact that we increased the budget by 300,000 dollars. Still if we need 4 million now just to be competitive and we just got 300,000, we still need 3.7 million.

What's the plan? Where's that going to come from? How does Burman plan to approach that?

I don't care how good Bohl is, if he's still in the cellar with budget and tools we're going to get cellar results.

If we need 3.7 million today to be competitive, we're going to need 6 million in two years, as that number will escalate and we haven't been keeping up with the rest of the conference financially.

The journalists need to ask some questions and force Burman to answer them, because he's on the clock, and if he can't do his job we can find someone who will.
 
Do you really need to make a thread a day about this? It's about the 3rd or 4th time you've made a thread saying the samething. I get your point, I do, but use one of your other threads.

Go find someone else to tell what to do. I'm not your kid and I don't give a shit if you like what I post or approve of it.

If you don't think it's important, or is multiple thread worthy, then go stick your head back in the sand. This is THE issue facing Wyoming athletics. Nothing will ever change until we solve it. It's important to me, and I'll keep bringing it up until we have a plan to fix it, an idea how to address it, and we make it public so we all know what is going on. I deserve that right as a season ticket holder and a contributor to CJC.

If you don't like to read it, don't click on it. It's that simple. No one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to read my posts or my threads.

If journalists in Wyoming start asking those hard questions in the press, a lot of us might not like the results.....

One issue is that it's nigh on impossible to get donors to spring for salaries.

It's a reaction to lack of commitment from the state. Like it or not, this is a public, land-grant institution. Big donors know such a program requires private largesse to complement public funding, but that magnanimity is only going to be as forthcoming as the larger commitment from the state and the institution, both financially and strategically. A lack of a clearly stated and sincere vision backed by a mission statement aligning all parties toward a common goal has hindered both donor largesse and the overall appropriation and deployment of funds toward UW Athletics' goals.

That's part of it, yes, though most of it is that donors prefer donating toward tangible/physical improvements rather than salaries.

And, yes, the state support of UW salaries has been horrendous across the board lately. UW went through a mandated budget cut a couple years ago, and most people there haven't seen a raise in 5-6 years. (As above, though, the legislature seems fine with shipping money for buildings.) But there'd probably be a full-scale revolt if the legislature started appropriating money for football salaries before addressing the serious problem they've created on campus.

To be fair, the assistant salary would have been right there in the top half of the conference, about the same as CSU. We nearly doubled the recruiting budget, I do not know where that stands in the conference. Bohl will make pretty close to the same as DC if he gets all of his incentives.

If you want a program that competes with the top of the conference you have to be prepared to pay top-of-the-conference ticket prices.

I think CSU game was $39 bucks each and wasn't worth $0.10

not sure they could pay me to sit through that game again
 
I don't think my wife has ever seen me so bummed. Nice family trip ruined by an absolute shit show. Hard to raise a few youngins to love cowboys when we get piss pounded every time i take them to a game

What would a Sweet 16 or Final 4 appearance bring to UW?
I doubt it brings in anywhere near the type of money a BCS Bowl brings in, but there's got to be some good money made right?

Each team gets allotted money for each game they play in, win or lose. That means that even a losing team in the first round gets the payout. There's no more money for winning the game, but of course you get another payout when you appear in the second game.

This money doesn't go to the team, though. It's paid to the conference, and split equally between all teams in the conference. (I assume, but don't know, that the team making the appearance gets a cut off the top first, to cover expenses, etc.)

The last numbers I saw were something like $1.9 million for the first appearance, and a total of $9.5 million for getting to the Final Four. (I think.)

There's also some rolling payout plan, where the money is paid to the conference over 6 years, or something.
