Yes that was it. He died and several players injured driving back from Fort Collins and someone fell asleep at the wheel and crashed.

I kind of figured it was something like that. I think it's great for players to honor their past teammates in such a nice way.

And IIRC they passed around #12 that season then nobody wore it until he would have graduated
