Herd, you're new, so you get some what of a pass. But we here at Wyonation don't give a crap about NDSU. lakesbison and company have made sure of that, if not made some of us come to hate NDSU if for no other reason than NDSU fans keep coming on here and posting about NDSU and trying to make conversations that have nothing to do with that school, about it.

Also, no reason to necro-bump an old thread.

Good for you . . . thanks for your pettiness on hating NDSU. I guess I don't have any reason to hate WYO, and generally root for you. So there :)

Your board, however, did need some education on what it means to be DI. Every one of NDSU's sports plays at the same level and for the same championship as WYO, with the excpetion of FB. Some of you clearly do not understand that. Schools are not FBS or FCS, Football is.

True but you forget....perception rules in college athletics.

Lol...just like schools aren't BCS or non-AQ? Just the football is?

Well sure technically, but it's really not about the football, it's about the money behind it.
There are really 3 tiers in D1.
BCS
non-BCS FBS
FCS

I agree with Beave that their AD has done a good job with their transition, etc. I just don't get the constant bickering back and forth about the quality of both schools. :brick:

I know it is a message board so some of this can be expected but still. :willybs:

Its all good, I think WYO fans would embrace more fans especially from a rabid passionate fanbase like ours.
there's no bickering, just pettiness?

We are happy to have you guys, but we don't want to hear about NDSU. At all. If you want to talk Wyoming football that's fine. Just stop bringing up the damn bizon!

The style of play that Bohl will no doubt bring to Wyoming is physical hardnosed play, with a strong emphasis on Defense, and a fairly conservative offense (depending on your skill level on O). With Bohl, the offense will be very conservative, especially early in the game. A winning offensive possession is driving to midfield in 5 minutes on 9 plays, getting 3 first downs, and punting the ball deep inside the 20 yard line, putting the defense in a good position. Bohl will keep recruiting defense until yours is one of the top in the conference.

Bohl will greatly emphasize limiting TOs and penalties, being deliberate and conservative on offense, putting the defense in good position. He will also rotate 6-8 players at the DE & DT positions, keeping fresh people on the field. His emphasis will be being stronger, fresher, and more physical in the 2nd half of the game.

I'm not sure if people here know what their getting into and if there will be and trust and patience for his style of play. It will be interesting to listen to all the whining about the conservative play that Bohl will bring. Some of Bohl's 7 point wins the past 3 years might as well have been 30 point wins, as you could feel that the other team was simply not going to score. Each possession, the other team was having to drive 80+ years against a defense that was kicking their ass. Even if Bohl's offense was not scoring, they moved the ball, then frustrated the other team by punting them deep inside the 20.

I think for Bohl and his staff, its less about creating a Fargo West. Instead, the profile that fits more closely with what the staff is building is Lincoln West...

I'm not saying he's trying to create another Nebraska, obviously he wants to build the only Laramie. But too often here, I think we try to peg him as copying what made him successful in Fargo. But the Fargo blueprint was something he brought up there from Lincoln. Sure, he adapted some things, but I still think if you asked him about his core principles, he'd point to his time under Tom Osbourne before he references his time at NDSU. You can see that in his coaching hires too, especially with a guy like Zach Duval, who he hadn't worked with since they were together at Nebraska.

The Nebraska blueprint fits more closely with Wyoming's culture, as well. Even though the population of Laramie more closely resembles Fargo, I think the geography and the culture of Lincoln is probably a closer fit to what Laramie is like (third-party observer, correct me if I'm wrong).

Populaton of the Fargo/Moorhead area is actually around 230,000. Much bigger population than Laramie.

But, I do agree with your point. Bohl does bring this attitude toward football from Lincoln. It is a good fit with the mindset needed to succeed in the MWC. The more I look at this hire, the more I believe that Bohl sees the MWC as weak on run defense and wants to exploit it with a ball control game.

I dig Duval. That guy could be the key for a quicker turnaround.

I don't think anyone will whine about conservative play as we went through that with the Glenn era and I don't think anyone was upset about the strength of the defense but the offense couldn't move the ball so eventually the defense would get tired.

Now if that is what we have to see all over again then yes there will be tears.

Sorry, I didn't make that part clear enough. To clarify:

Laramie (30,816) is closer in population to Fargo (113,658) than Lincoln (265,404)

Well, you have to take into account that West Fargo and Moorhead, MN are included with Fargo. That brings the metro area up to over 200,000. They merge right into each other. I"d say Fargo is closer in size to Lincoln in that respect. But, it's a minor point.

I would compare the size of the schools. They are very comparable in contrast to the University of Nebraska/Lincoln which is over 2 times the size of either school.
