I know many people have already said this same thing, but I just saw some things that make me like what NDSU has done even more.
There is 3 sports I care about in college athletics...football, basketball, baseball. I know a lot of people on here don't care about college baseball or baseball in general, but that's not the point.
The point is...NDSU football dominates...3 FCS titles in a row, 7-3 against FBS teams since Bohl...blah blah blah, we all know what NDSU football has done since we have their coach.
But here is what gets me interested in the NDSU AD, not just their football program.
Basketball...They almost made the Sweet 16 this season. They won their conference tourney and made the Sweet 16.
We just played against them in the CBI a couple seasons ago, and beat them, then fast forward 2 years, they are almost a Sweet 16 team, and we are still in the CBI, but losing the first game.
Now the other sport I care about...baseball.
NDSU just made the post-season.
If you don't know how the college baseball postseason works, it is similar to hoops, but not exactly the same.
There are 64 teams, and many come from winning your conference. The auto-bid.
NDSU just made the college baseball playoffs for the first time since 1956, they won their auto-bid.
Wait, it's to cold to have baseball in Wyoming! But...yet North Dakota does it! And competes AND WINS when they do it.
Okay, so maybe NDSU football was only successful because of Bohl. But maybe the AD up there wanted to make sure the coach had everything he could to win. So maybe we shouldn't give the AD too much credit for just one sport.
Well, basketball... Almost in the Sweet 16. Remember when we were in their spot? Marcus Bailey and Josh Davis led us to that spot. NDSU did it without Larry Shyatt or Scott Duncan and Larry Nance or Leonard Washington.
Ok, success in 2 sports is nice, but it could be a coincidence. Let's not give the AD too much credit yet.
Then...baseball. This is the one that gets me.
I constantly hear that Wyo is too cold for baseball in March through May, yet the Big10 plays baseball and half those teams are basically in Canada. We can't do it because we would have to go to tournaments in the south to start the season and it's just unrealistic. Which is TOTAL BS because EVERY team goes to tourneys in the south to start the season every year!
But back to NDSU. They won their tourney. That's another conference championship for the Bison this school year.
They made a tourney they haven't made it to in almost 60 seasons.
At this point, they have 3 conference titles in the 3 sports I care about, THIS YEAR.
Made the playoffs in all 3 and have been successful in those playoffs (except for baseball as it hasn't started yet).
Meanwhile, we have an AD that wants to be "almost never last", and in the "top half" of our conference.
Stupid BOTs firing Sternberg who was going to change things here.
I want the NDSU AD in Laramie.
