I think we will all agree...

that:
1). Joe Glenn is a great person and ambassador for Wyoming.

2). The players try hard

3). We love Wyoming Football but it is definetly on life support.

Bottom line -

Joe is not getting the job done even though he is a nice guy and the blame goes to him. The kids try hard but they don't have the talent (not all but a good portion of them) to play D-1 football which goes back to Joe. With what I have seen, I am not sure we get another win this year. Maybe negative, but I don't see where we can get one, especially with the way we are playing and 2-10 or 3-9 is unaccetable!

The sad and scary part is, even if Joe gets fired, which to me looks inevitable, we hire a new coach and for the next 3-4 years, we have to endure the rebuilding of our program to get coaches and players on same page and to build up our talent to where they can contend with the level of the MWC. The sucky part is that all of us want to win right now. We are tired of being mediocre or worse and we are ready for winning right now.

I saw a lot of head hanging and almost sulking on Saturday which was to be expected by the way we played. I say that this program needs a monster, monster, shock of somekind. Something that rocks the university and the football program. Something that shows the university and fans we are here to have a winning program. We need a JOLT of epic propotions right now. I say we don't wait. The misery of a slow death is becoming extremely too much for everybody to endure, including the current coaches, players and fans.

I say this to Tom Burman. Rock our world!! Get the program headed in the right direction RIGHT NOW!!!

Right on 7220! We need a serious jolt as in no longer accepting our status as harboring one of the smallest athletic budgets in the MWC. Like a few posters below have stated, we are awash in extraction revenue that have benefited much of UW and the state as a whole.

UW has profited greatly in both the academic and athletic arenas, mostly in the capital construction areas. And although commendable, more needs to be done. Is there really any reason we cannot pony up coaching salaries that are monetarily comparable to other MWC programs and that land us near the top of the conference instead of the bottom?

Would that not make a statement to the league and especially to our fans that we're serious about the future of our athletic programs? It's not just football but all programs need a serious salary boost. If not now, when? I like the endowment approach mentioned in another post and it's time for the administration to stop settling for sub-par coaching. You get what you pay for!

And if we do pony up the bucks, it's not inconceivable that the right coach could provide us a turnaround that is closer than you think.

Go Pokes!

You bring up some good points...and I would offer this thought to start: If there is a new coach, there doesn't have to be a 3 - 4 year learning curve to get competitive in the MWC. Fred Akers comes to mind, so does Dennis Erickson. Both those guys came in with ZERO, and made it happen pretty quick (both were competitive year one, and both were sucessful year two (although as far as Erickson, it was Roach that took Ericksons rucruits and won).

I cannot argue with the premise of your arguement 7220; in fact i think your 3 points did sum up where we are at perfectly. In fact I told my brother it appears that Glenn took a losing footbally team brought us back to average and then now has re-established a losing mentality with this team. I think Joe is a great guy, and I have found myself wondering if Burman could find a position for him as an assistant AD in charge of marketing or PR. Which that thinking in itself suggests to me that we have no choice but to make a change at seasons end.

However I did want to argue your point about having to wait another 3-4 years to win. We have and I stress have to find a coach that can get the most out of young players. Look at Nick Saban and how fast he turned the Tide around. He is by all accounts a disiplinarian and holds his guys accountable, but on Saturday they are getting the job done, plus he is doing it with a young team, at least 3 true freshman starting and they are rising to the top of a tough SEC this year. While I realize we aren't getting Nick Saban @ Wyoming there is no reason we can't hire a young guy with good credentials that should fit here in Laramie. Burman will have to do some research but he needs to earn his money and get a guy that can pump some life back into this team! I can even deal with struggling for a year or two if I see the enthusiasm out there on the field. Right now the Pokes don't look all that fired up even when they first take the field.

Snowman,

I agree about Saban at Alabama taking that team and turning it around. My only question is do we have the talent on this team to do that? I understand that a new coach might be able to get more out of this team but would it be enough? Just a thought?

7220Fan,

I look at this roster and think we have the ability to score some points. Do I think we have Alabama talent? Of course not. I do think that Sween showed on Saturday that he still is a D1 QB, and apparently the redshirt Adam Barry has some Mad skills at least from the rumors I am hearing.

We lose Thunder and Lightning, but Terry looks like a solid replacement. Our recieving core can only get better next year considerning the fact that we don't appear to have a threat at all right now. Though maybe Stewart can help out in the next week or two.

Do I think we have MWC championship talent on this team right now and going into next year probably not. But I do think with the right coach and a couple key recruits that could play as freshman we could be Bowl eligible.

Snowman, I would accept that, a 6 or 7 win 1st season to go to a bowl. The fact that we desperately need a complete overhaul goes without saying. To do that though, I think like I stated before, we need something to rock the foundation of the university and Wyoming football that will bring it to life!!
