I predict Dave Christensen will fail

Sorry for the misunderstanding when I said Christensen has an inferiority complex. I think Christensen is very confident in himself, no problems there. What I meant was I think he looks at the University of Wyoming as a mid-major with no chance of playing with the big boys. So he himself doesn't have an inferiority complex about himself, he has an inferiority complex about the University of Wyoming.

Now that we have that straight. Joe Glenn's defenses were in no way shape or form overrated. If anything, they were underrated and this is why. Joe Glenn's offenses were mostly terrible, giving the defense no time to catch their breath. The defense got tired and frustrated with always carrying the load with no help from the offense. The offense could barely score. Basically the only time the defense didn't play well was when they were fed up with getting no help or they were physically beat the hell up from being on the field so long when the offense goes 3 and out every series. With just a mediocre offense, Glenn's defenses were super.

The 2006 defense was GOOD. It certainly wasn't great, because no great defense gives up 55 points to BYU. Other than that no Joe Glenn defense was anything better than average. The defense put up some decent rankings a couple of years, but did you ever feel confident we could stop a really good team from scoring when they needed to? If you did I want what you're smoking.

Any team with half a pulse of a pass attack had their way with us up and down the field. I'm not talking about anything DC-related, but to suggest Joe Glenn's defenses were GREAT is laughable.

Joe Glenn's defenses final NCAA rankings in Total and Scoring defense:

2003 - Total Defense 102 - Scoring Defense - 82
2004 - Total Defense - 67 - Scoring Defense - 53
2005 - Total Defense - 61 - Scoring Defense - 69
2006 - Total Defense - 9 - Scoring Defense - 53
2007 - Total Defense - 22 - Scoring Defense - 49
2008 - Total Defense - 38 - Scoring Defense - 73

Glenn did a lot for the program and I think we all appreciate that, but to suggest his teams were an example of GREAT defenses......

Those numbers are mind boggling to me.. How a defense can rank that high, when the offense went 3 and out 84% of the time is out of this fvcking world. Can we get Joe Glenn back? If we had Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida, or LSU's defense with our offense going 3 and out all the time, their numbers would be way way worse than this. Very Impressive. And the sad thing is, you should show the statistics at the middle of the season when they were top 5 defense, before finally wearing out towards the end of the year. Hell I recall going into a Boise game with the top or 2nd ranked defense in the nation and I won a lot of money betting the boise fans about our defense. Incredible. As a football guy for 34 years I am extremely impressed.

You are fixating on the first column instead of seeing the big picture. It is real easy to have a statistically top 10 defense when you constantly give your opponents a short field (fewer yards to gain before scoring?). The second column tells the real story. If Glenn's defense were truly great, you would see the numbers in scoring defense a lot closer to the total defense numbers.....

Its also tough to have a good scoring defense when your quarterback has three pick sixes a game. Joes teams were pretty dam good on defense. In all honesty we haven't improved much sense joe glenn. The one thing dc has done is cut back on the turnovers.

I want nothing more than Coach Christensen to turn Wyoming into a National Power. But I believe he will fail, and this is why. He has an inferiority complex that I don't think he can overcome. He treats Wyoming like a mid-major and I get the sense that he feels Wyoming will always be a mid-major and its simply impossible to compete with the "big boys". I actually believe this is partially why ACS quit. I believe we go into 3 or 4 games a year with no intent of playing to win. TCU this past year for example. He has managed to turn Joe Glenn's excellent defense into one of the worst in the nation in 2 years. I predicted that would happen the day we hired him. Christensen broke the golden rule, don't fix it if it isn't broken, when he switched from the 3-4 back to the 4-3. FAIL. The problem is that our offense hasn't gotten better to counter it. Atleast nothing to speak of. I figured we'd have to start winning 42-40 instead of 17-10. But our offense still stinks. I think Joe Glenn was the perfect fit for Wyoming and I miss him. Its too damn bad he couldn't recruit 1 good WR to save his ass. His defenses were excellent until the inept offense led the defense to wear out late in seasons which led to his downfall. We need a guy to come in with the intent to turn Wyoming into a National Power. Just like Urban started at Utah, and Patterson is doing at TCU. Remember UTAH has a completely pathetic tradition Pre Urban Meyer.
