We can win out...I can't tell you I'm being logical. I've just got a feeling that this loss is going to light a fire in the team.

I hope it lights a fire instead of demoralizing the team because their coach quit on them.

I believe the former based solely on Brett Smith. He's a leader. He had a serious lapse tonight, but while Dave Christensen is blaming the ejection on the officials, Brett Smith only blamed himself. He's young, competitive, and emotional. He's also human, and humans make mistakes. This one was big, but owning it is the first step towards earning back the trust of your teammates, coaches, and fans.

Stranger things have happened. I remember a 4-1 team that caught a severe case of fumbleitis and lost all their remaining games. Maybe this 1-4 team will catch fire and win the remaining 7.

Well they can either be the 3-9 2010 team or be like the 2006 team that started out (2-4 I think) with a couple early, tough losses @ Virginia and Syracuse and at home to a bad AFA team, and then proceeded to finish 3rd in conference closing the season strong and bowl eligible.

Brett won't let that happen again. I believe the team comes out on homecoming and makes a statement win over Air Force. We are a good road team. We are almost always in every road game we play. I know that we can put it together.

I want nothing more for your optimism to be correct. I just cant see it happening. Asking a lot of this team.

The biggest reason for my lack of faith:
DC
Tormey

Will we have the same coaches? If so, what does it matter.

The 3rd and 1 with Kirkegarrd, the terrible "prevent" defense that NEVER works and the kneeling on it was a stretch of pathetic coaching. Worse I've seen.

These coaches could mess up a wet dream.

We have given up over 30 points in every game except cal-poly. You don't win many games doing that. I hope we win a few more games this year. I don't see us winning any of the next 3.

You're right, it does remind me a lot of the 2006 team that had a bunch of close tough losses early (granted vs BCS teams) and ended up 3rd in conference (ahead of Utah...beat them head to head). Unfortunately, we finished 6-6 and the NM Bowl picked the 5th place (6-6) Lobos over us even though we beat them on the road  and we didn't go to a bowl game at all.

While I still think we will need to pull a couple upsets (most likely AFA & SDSU) to get bowl eligible, running the table isn't impossible, just unlikely. If we were to run the table we might be even more frustrated that we let this one slip away. But, let's get real...we need to get 1 conference win first before we worry about a second.

What USA Today has to say about the team...

Luke Ruff and Robert Herron both went out. That certainly did not help anything on both sides of the ball. The d-line and Muhammed cannot be blamed, they actually did really well up front in stuffing the run. Just need to do something about stopping the pass as well. At least Air Force isn't the passing threat they were with Jefferson, so that's a plus.
