I like how Burman glossed over the money issue in his press

conference. He said there may be opportunities to increase the budget. In other words, we'll ask the state for it and they might give it to us.

Nothing to see here. Another coach is going to fail in Laramie because we ask him to win with a budget that is in the bottom third of MWC teams(and we're not talking about TCU, BYU, and Utah). We're going to fail because our assistant coaches are going to be losers, grad assistants and hacks that are willing to work for chump change. We're going to fail because our recruiting budget isn't big enough to get enough good players to Wyoming.

Whoever takes this job is a f'ing idiot. We're not addressing the real issues and this will be another round of "Didn't Get a Miracle".

Until Wyoming addresses the real issue, Wyoming is small time. Get used to it.
 
I'm just sick of getting my hopes up to realize the problem isn't the coach, it's his tools. We're really good at firing people. I want to see one succeed. We ran off Sternberg, who was going to get the athletics budget up, because he pissed of the good ol boys network.

Now everybody is coming up with coaching lists and slapping each other on the ass, without addressing the real reason we lose: money.

Until we solve the money issue, we're fucked. We'll keep repeating this same cycle every five years. All it does is kill off the small fan base we do have and alienate the people that do give money now.

Solve the budget issue first. That should be priority number one, instead we're playing "new coach grab ass", like we're suddenly going to become a MWC champion by hiring another unproven or washed up coach and giving him a handicapped budget right out the gate.

What are we going to do about the real issue: I cry? Nothing, we're going to ignore it and fail again.

I assume you are not referring to the "offensive" genius who's game plan was the same for the past 5 years, made no halftime adjustments, and used the same 18 plays ad naseum, but "offensive" dude who blew up at Air Force in a public display that showed his true colors.

As long as Tom Burman has his little fingers in this decision, we will continue to get the same results. Burman should have been gone Sunday morning, and DC Sunday afternoon. Burman is a cancer that will continue to eat away at this until nothing is left. HE NEEDS TO GO NOW. Then start the rebuilding process. As long as Burman is in place, nobody is going to throw any more money at UW football. All he has done is cost the University money.
 
I would say "offensive" has a double meaning, but our offense was just as inept as it was under Glenn against quality opponents, so offensive refers to his ability with the press, and his sideline antics.

I completely agree. It's obvious Tom Burman has known what the problem is for years and doesn't have the ability to fix it.

That should be the requirement for the new A.D. Can you get our budget out of the dark ages, make it at least conference average, and continue to build it as the rest of the conference improves?

The answer to all those questions for Burman is no.

He just accepts losing, excuses it as "good results", and continues on in his quest to field average teams with below average tools to complete the task.

We need a complete change in the way we do business and Tom isn't going to provide that.
 
OK, I need to read all the posts before I start typing. I agree completely.

1 guy can't do it alone. I doubt I will be excited about the future of the program again until the budget is in place to be competitive. If we want to ever get back to where we were 20 years ago and beyond we need the budget to compete. We can buy coaching talent throughout RIGHT NOW, and not hope on getting lucky with cheap up and comers.

Is there a secret agenda by those holding the purse strings that UW football drops down to a lower level because I do not see the commitment to winning at the D1 level. Without a kick ass staff top to bottom RIGHT NOW, I see the fan base so frustrated we no longer argue against those in favor of dropping a level. Say it ain't so. Love the players, love the coaches, love the fans, love anyone committed to winning..... just wish those with the power to change it were committed.
 
It's interesting to read that Tiller is potentially advising us in the search, and that assistant coaching salaries are an issue for anyone we hire.

It's interesting because Tiller fired his entire staff and two years later went 11-2, then took that staff with him to Purdue and won Big 10 championships with them. Maybe his biggest asset may be showing us how to build a full program, rather than finding a head coach.

I feel like our fan base, enthusiasm, donor support, and state support are all dying slowly on the vine. It's no secret that a lot of our fans were part of the late 60's success in football. They aren't getting any younger. We had another great generation of Cowboy athletics in the 80's. Since then, we haven't had success with the exception of Marcus Bailey and company. It's hard to believe that our last successful period in athletics happened in the late 80's. Any fan 30 or younger can't even remember how good it can be.

We need to act and we need to act now. It's time for Wyoming to raise the budget or find an A.D. that can.
 
Increase student fees by 100 dollars per year,and add it to football assistant wages. That would put us over 2 million for assistant wages. No student would notice.

If we need 4 million a year, it's probably going to take a combination of a lot of different fees. Student fees would be a good start. The alumni base should be ready for increased contributions with all the press Sternberg generated(I know I am). In addition, there has to be a way to get more support from the state.

Obviously Tiller is and always will be one of the most respected voices of Wyoming football in the modern era, but am I the only one who thought he sounds maybe a little over the hill during his recent media appearances on Wyoming broadcasts? Granted it's not the best venue to demonstrate your knowledge but I thought he sounded a little out of it.
