I know this has been mentioned before...

For CFB, what we need is a study that evaluates the benefit the NFL receives from CFB. The NFL will not accept kids out of high school, so that only leaves 1 option. I can't fathom how the NFL does not benefit from CFB. CFB makes their star players. Pro days are held on college campuses. etc. etc.

If most CFB programs must be subsidized by taxpayers, then taxpayer are subsidizing a giant for-profit institution.

Have lawmakers force the NFL to launch their own minor league. If it loses money, it is on the NLF's dime. They pay the loss for their developmental league; it does not come at the expense of integrity of academics and/or budgets of our institutions of higher learning.

That alone would drastically change the landscape of CFB.

I am getting to the point that I hope the big 64 leave the rest of us so we can play real college football. Strip their tax exempt status, direct the taxes off of their cartel to actual schools that want to exemplify the notion of a true student athlete...and put an end to the facade that we are or ever will be in the same league. Let them pound each other into pieces as a junior league to the NFL, which they are now...but formalize it and let them kill each other, both on the field and as a function of their greed. Give them what they want...they are going to take it anyway. Burman has to defend an athletics budget that will never be big enough to allow us to compete year in and year out...leaving the people of this state to debate whether we have athletics or not. Between inept leadership at UW and actual and perceived lack of performance on and off the field, many outside of Cheyenne and Laramie resent the hell out of UW...and that will only get worse. We are heading into fairly ugly times, and the ability to hold this funding going forward will only get tougher and tougher.

LP, I am with you on this in terms of separating the CFB world, leaving the Big 64 to their own devices, while establishing another division where schools like Wyoming and others may be successful within their own environment. The competition would still be ripe, the interest would still be maintained by member school fan bases...it would actually be invigorating if you ask me.

This is the greatest post I have ever read on this board....and dead on.

It don't mean a fcs team isn't better then a fbs team , last year we lose very loosely .... ( haha)to every fcs team just about , however the difference is the money part of the programs coaching and such ...same . And really you all don't think so but most out of state kids hate larime, you can put lipstick on it butt.... it's just really a boring boring little town . I love here just because I inherited property other then that it's pretty but not real inviting.

I gotta say, I think LawPoke nailed. It wouldn't change the fanbases much, if anything it would make fans of the little guys like UW more interested cause there actually could be a chance then.

DINO, do you think it is realistic to assume WYO has a legitimate chance to ever reach the playoff (assuming of course the system stays the same)?

Did Utah think they had a chance at multiple undefeated seasons and Top Bowl games in the 90's? You strive for the better. Not just say. "Meh, we are who we are."
I'm pretty sure Boise as a Non d1 school in the 90's didn't think they'd have the success that they have had as a young program. But they strove for it. And both those programs got it.
We need to strive for it too.
If we strive for it, the answer is yes, maybe one day we will make the playoff.
But right now we need to strive for firm footing to begin that quest.

So, based on that logic, anyone attending a university on any kind of scholarship shouldn't be allowed to parlay the development of their talent into a paycheck from any kind of private industry until they, what, join the Peace Corps?
