I have only one thing to say about the football program

Hell, even 1996! 10 - 1, and a bad call (and punt) for a WAC championship...is better than the last 14 years of mediocrity!

We didn't go bowling in '96. I knew the moment I first saw the 1996 schedule that spring it was going to bite us in the rear. No one was going to show up for SJSU, Idaho, Western Michigan, etc.

Bowl game, or no bowl game...1996 was the last, honest, time we were ranked top 20, and competed for a conference championship. It was the last time, really, that we had something similar to 1987-88.

ahhhhhh......freshman year. We did have a weak schedule, but as I remember the students sure enjoyed those games. Especially the Hawaii game. I think I was equally disappointed in the SDSU loss that year. We had it and that damn QB got flushed from the pocket and ran for big gainer if I remember right. Then we lost. Basically he ACS'ed us. Utah went to the Copper bowl right? and was crushed by Wisconsin.

It has been 15 years and we have not recovered from letting Tiller leaving for Purdue. I certainly hope we have learned that lesson and when a coaching staff can provide a consistent winner it is rewarded with contract extensions and great performance based incentive pay to keep them here. I also hope it starts next year with this staff.

I miss 1967. 10-0. No. 5 in the polls. The Sugar Bowl. The pinnacle of Wyoming football. Unfortunately for me, I missed the Pokes good years in the 80's as I was serving in the Army and overseas most of those years. This was in the Stone Age before all the access via the Internet. I'm glad I lived through the Poke's glory years as a kid because I doubt we'll ever reach those heights again.

Well, we can put part of the reason why Wyoming took that fatal fall at the feet of BYnerU and their racist policies at the time. If they had allowed blacks to become Priests or the whatnot, then the Black 14 incident never happens and then Wyoming might still be a national Powerhouse with the possibility of a national title or 2.
Dammit BYU. :tickedoff:

Dude get over the whole Black 14. It did not affect the history of Wyoming football to this day. Did it affect the team that year and the years after sure but not until 2010.

Really? Back to back 10-1 seasons, dominating defenses, and even talks of playing for a national title? And for the 20 years prior (to at least 1949), Wyoming was one of the most consistent programs in the nation. Coaces kept building off of it with Eaton getting Wyoming to it's highest level, and then the Black 14 incident happened and the once powerhouse program was left in a shambles until 1988. And even then, gone were the days of being one of the top defenses in the country on an annual basis. Gone were any hopes of a national title. Gone was the powerhouse program that had dominated the WAC with ASU and the late Skyline conference. Face it, Wyoming was at a point where BSU is now. A small school that popped up out of nowhere and started dominating and eventually had people talking of going to play for a National Championship.
