I got some inside info on helmets...

The worst part about the exuberant amount of helmets is the safety issue. They aren't ever fully broken in.
You don't really "break in" a football helmet. It doesn't get stronger the more hits it takes, in fact, the opposite is true.

My mistake, poorly worded. Meant the consistency of proper fit and such. A ton of upkeep from the equipment staff to keep them fitted correctly with travel, etc.

Any word on if state flag steamboat will still be used or csu game?
I'm probably in the minority, but I think those are dumb. You can't make out Steamboat nor the state flag.

This is why the NFL's use of throwback unis has gone down - a new rule requires players to wear the same helmet all season (unless it is damaged, obviously) since, in theory, it's safer to wear one that has been fitted to your exact specifications rather than have to wear a new one on alternate uni day. You'll notice that the NFL teams that do wear throwbacks, they wear ones that use the same color of helmet as their normal uni.

Why wouldn't they just make a alternate one made to their exact specifications?

Because it would make sense and we can't have that happen.

same helmet...same size padding....etc.

It isn't like our guys all have custom made lids

Well, it's not just the customization, it's that theoretically the player has gotten comfortable with one helmet (ie, the internal padding has broken in to fit comfortably).

Using anything from the NFL as a reason is just stupid, There is a reason Goodell gets booed by fans he is a complete moron.

oh the banter helps the time go by until we have actual football to talk about!

It's close, I watched the Hall of Fame game just to get out of watching 2013 replays anymore.

Here's a link on some pre-game prep for helmets at LSU. Note the time on each helmet.. Yikes.

I'm assuming they have 15+ equipment interns/managers who do it. That's a boat load of hours lol
