I get the feeling

Tom is going to can Dave if we don't get to a bowl and try to save his own ass.

Anything less then tied for 1st place in the Mountain is a worthy of being fired after last years debacle. That means if he wins out from here then it saves his job anything less is unacceptable for the money he is making.

Good luck winning out with our schedule! I have tickets to the road game at USU when Chuckie got hurt I thought we had a chance but now I hope we don't get embarrassed again.

Is Tormey a friend of Dave's? Is that the problem? Any way, there should be a rule: You are not allowed to hire "friends" because you are reluctant to get rid of them.
Call it the Joe Glenn rule.

Makes you wonder if Tormey will be the sacrificial lamb first.

I'm actually not ready to get rid of Dave yet. ...I think we have a good offensive mind. Our d is the glaring issue.

Dave is gone unless their is a miracle finish. He already had a chance to change d coordinators and he picked his guy and it hasn't panned out. He is gone at the end of this season if no bowl game. He isn't getting a chance to pick his 3rd d coordinator. Ain't happening.

Burman gave him a number he needed to reach for wins at the end of last season. No bowl= no job.

I think that is probably true and I think DC is done, it's just a matter of timing.

Most of the time when we get ready to fire a losing coach I get hopeful for the possibilities (I was downright giddy when we got rid of Heath). However, in this instance I can't help but feel that we are extremely screwed. The MWC has fallen apart, we now have 3 coaches in a row that demonstrate us to be a graveyard and Tom Burman is still in charge. I don't believe we will ever be consistently competitive again in either revenue sport.
I think you and SDPoke should start a bowling team and find another team to be fans of dropping to FCS.

You must have me confused with someone else. I am 100% against the FCS talk as I described in detail on those threads. Nobody goes backwards, especially a program that has been playing at the top level for 75 years.

However, since Tom Burman is allowed to remain in charge no matter what he does, including hiring NCAA violators and destroying one if the revenue programs with a crony hire, I don't really see any reasonable path towards competitiveness, regardless of the classification in which we compete.

We think we are investing, but even our capital improvements pale in comparison to athletic departments that are serious about competitive success in collegiate athletics.

TBH if we don't get to a Bowl game and win I wouldn't be surprised to see Tom canned.

Yeah, I was going to say.....not sure Tom will even get that privilege if that's the case. Who was the one that gave CDC a huge extension....???

Like I said- the consultants are Sternberg's CYA move for actions pending the season's outcome.

I am not sure. Especially as Tom was in on the consultant hire / selection. Why do you think so?

When you're going to kill part of a court of kings, it's always good form to let the doomed party challenge to the duel and select the method of their demise.

"Hey, he's the one who chose the consultant (read: 'weapon')..."

Why do we have to endure the rest of the season to let Burman go?

Because an AD isn't judged by a couple of bad football games. An AD is responsible for all sports, a marketing operation, raising funds, external relations, negotiating various contracts, and compliance with one metric ton of NCAA regulations...just to name part of it.

It's a hard job and, like any employee, he's going to be reviewed on all of it.

You're right and unfortunately other than wrestling and women's BB we haven't seen many positives throughout his tenure.....some growth in facilities but very few results on the field.

One of the primary responsibilities is to oversee and work with each of the coaches to provide for success......I would not define mediocrity as success. Since the inception of the MWC Wyoming has tied for a regular season men's BB championship and followed that with another regular season championship....neither team won the tournament. Other than that no team has come close to winning anything.....like I said earlier women's BB and wrestling (WAC) are doing fine but the rest of our athletic program is lucky to be middle of the pack most years. Change has to come from the top down, we seem to have a president who sees the benefit of a strong athletic program and now we need someone as the AD who is not satisfied with the status quo and IMHO the sooner we make that change the sooner we can make strides to improve!

Wyoming wrestles in the WWC.

And to be fair, in 2011, until Brett took a Tank Carter to the helmet, we were seriously challenging TCU.

How sad is it that Smith's best supporting cast he'll have at UW was probably in his first season? Hard to foresee these things.

We just repeat the same thought process every few years: Who do we get rid of? Moon or Koenning, Barta or Glenn, Christensen or Burman?

We hire someone new and we have this sense of optimism and then the longer they stay in their position, the less we like them because we get the same results no matter who is there.

This record is broken, gentleman.

So what do you suggest? Get rid of both?
