I don't really care for moral victories...

However, given our recent history on the road, and particularly with Utah - I can honestly say I am surprised. If a couple of plays go the other way, the Pokes could have pulled it off. Given the fact that we are playing umpteen freshmen - which indicates a little bit about DC's recruiting prowess - and giving #16 all they can handle at their place, I think the future looks very bright. CSU looks ripe for the picking...and who knows about BYU and SDSU.

That one potential pick 6 could seriously have won us the game, that's how close we were to making it. I think the defense would've been able to hold on to a 14 point lead for a quarter and a half, especially as Utah would've been forced to try riskier plays.

So yeah, I think this is a big positive. It should show us how close we are. Utah was close to beating Oregon IN Oregon, something USC is nowhere close to doing. Utah's ranked #16 for a reason.

I agree with you LawPoke, Recruit some good fast receivers and take away that gun they keep shooting themselves in the foot with and the future looks bright. :thumb:

Screw moral victories. We flat out choked that game away. How the %$*& does the backup QB cause an interception when he didn't even throw the ball?! I'm glad the kid is a good athlete, but he is NOT a clutch player. Put him at RB is you really think he can be productive on the field, but for God's sake do NOT throw him the ball. We get into the endzone on that drive and it's our game. Period. I'm sick and tired of losing, and I don't give a shit if we played better. If we can't win the game, it doesn't matter how close it was. Damn I'm mad.

Pathetic is all I can say. I don't know that I can honestly say I feel any better about our new offense. 1 first down in the second half with 5 minutes left to play is pathetic. Hey coach how about you try some shorter passes or screens when ACS is running for his life every play. Stop making him stand back there forever waiting for the recievers to get down field. And what the hell is wrong with our offensive line, false starts on nearly every critical play against AFA and Utah, and if there is more then 4 guys rushing they don't give ACS any time and someone almost always goes through untouched. Also, someone please tell ACS to throw the ball away after he has ran out of the pocket and has danced around for more then 5 seconds, he took several un-neccessary sacks today where he could have just thrown the ball away. I still think we are a long way from having a productive offense, and unfortunatly the only offensive recruits I have seen that we have are qbs, no recievers, no offensive linemen.

Well put... some people are complaining about us not throwing the ball downfield, some people are complaining about not throwing short passes.

Good effort pokes, we don't have the horses yet to beat a team like Utah on the road. Its that simple. Nothing any coach in the world can do about that right now. The coaches' job is to give the team a chance to win, and I feel this staff did that as best they could for right now.

I think we have a great chance still to get to 6 wins. BYU, SDSU, CSU, we need 2 of those 3.

I'm not sure what game you watched, but we DID throw shorter passes and attempted screen plays in the second half. They just didn't work because we got hit after 2 or 3 yards, and then the O-line took a false start penalty and there was no way to move the chains.

We had a lead for three quarters @ the #16 team in the nation, a team that was close to beating Oregon in Eugene, something that USC was nowhere near doing. I don't see how you can be logically pissed off at that. We did this while utilizing more freshmen than almost any other team in the nation, and somehow you expect them to execute to perfection.

I think it says a LOT about where this team is going. Unless of course you have no faith that our players will learn, then I guess you have a point.

As far as recruiting goes, you can never recruit too many quarterbacks, because what they learned in high school is extremely valuable in all other positions on the field where their athletics fit. Jovon Bouknight was a high school QB - I'd be extremely happy to have a QB turned receiver like him again. It would completely change the dynamics of this offense.

We're still in the run for a few offensive linemen. The following are 2 star linemen who are considering Wyoming: OT Daniel Fleischman (6'6, 275), OT Billy Turner (6'5, 270), OT Matthew Acey (6'4, 270), OT Austin Weatherford, (6'4, 290, 4.9 40), OG Trevor Sales (6'2, 285). Apart from those, there are obviously the ones who don't have the so-called star ratings yet.

The biggest thing I noticed with our passing game in the 2nd half was that on 1st and 2nd down we were trying to throw a 12 yard pass and get the first down in 1 play, which is great if ACS has the time. However, he didn't seem have even enough time for the recievers to run those 10 yard routes because he was getting rushed so often. Then on 3rd down we seemed to figure out that ACS didn't have time, and so we would throw a 3 yard pass and expect the reciever to run 7 yards. To me that play calling is exactly opposite of what it should be. If ACS doesn't have time, throw the 3 yard passes on 1st and 2nd down and see what the recievers can do. Then on 3rd down regardless of if it is 3rd and 10 or 3rd and 2 if we are throwing a pass, throw it past the first down marker so that if it is caught we have the 1st down, we don't have to expect the reciever to run for it.

It seemed to me that the only short passes we threw were on 3rd and 10's because the 1st and 2nd downs were longer passes that ACS didn't have time to complete. The reciever almost never can catch a 3 yard pass and run 7 yards on a 3rd down in any game, so I would much rather see them try a shorter pass on 1st and 2nd, and then if need be the longer pass to get the first down on 3rd. It seemed to me yesterday we did exactly the opposite through the entire 2nd half.

Reading some of the posts this morning on both this board and the other board has made me a little sick. I am not sure what Cowboy fans were expecting. Were you really expecting Wyoming's offense to instantly turn over night into Missouri's? I'm just as sick of losing as the next fan, but there are people actually suggesting that losing last night was worse than losing 50-0.

Come on people, we're never going to have success if we can't give a coaching staff an honest chance (3-4 years of their own system) before openly doubting them. If 2-3 years from now we are still in the same place, then I can understand the rumblings. But if people can't live with the growing pains associated with a complete program overhaul, then get off the bandwagon. There's no room for you supposed "cowboy" fans.

I still believe we have a great chance at getting to 6 wins and being competitive in every game form here on out.

Get real people, this act of turning on the team at every possible downturn is getting old. Man up and enjoy the ride.

I got this post from a poster named Triple-WY over at the MWC board. I think it sums it up well.

Nowhere in my post did I say "wait until next year", just pointing to the fact that this is the most competitive team Wyoming has fielded in some years, it is very young which is allowing them to improve over the course of the season, and in my opinion UW is set to improve over the next several years. Yes, it is frustrating that they are losing. If you think you are the only fan that is completely tired of it, the only fan that is emotionally invested in the program, the only fan that lives out of state and travels thousands of miles to see games, the only fan that contributes money to the programs, writes letters of support to Wyoming and UW reps and officials....well, you are flat out wrong. However, if you expected this Wyoming team to go in and win at Utah, something that has not been done by any team since.....when? then you should probably check passion at the door and level expectations with the reality of where the program is. I apologize on the team's behalf that they could not meet your expectations and that DC could not put together a top 15 team in a matter of months.

Now, quit feeling sorry for yourself. We all appreciate the support you provide to the program but you are now crying like a little girl with a skinned knee, and frankly, it is embarrassing to see someone with an affiliation to Wyoming acting like such a bitch.

This is not the most competitive team we have fielded in a number of years. I'm sick of reading that. Just 3 years ago, we crushed Utah and CSU at home and gave TCU all they could handle. In 2007, we beat TCU and were 4-1 at that point before totally collapsing.

Yes, we are better than last year but you can't tell me that the Utah team we played last night was
anything like last year's team. I like the fact we are not turning the ball over very much. I give Austin a lot of credit because he's running for his life on nearly every play. He's taking the snaps so deep in the shotgun that he almost looks like he's in punt formation.

However, let's get real. I will be there next week and in 3 weeks vs tcu and at the csu game. But our only realistic chances for a win come at sds and csu. I don't see how we can score enough points to be in next week's game or the tcu game. Other than the trick play last night, how many plays did we have go more than 15 yards? I don't know but its a really low number. Until DC can get some playmakers in here, like a Bounight, we are going to struggle. We face way too many defenses with 8 or 9 players near the line of scrimmage. They don't respect our speed, just daring us to go over the top. We can't do it. It puts so much pressure on our o line. I don't believe they are as bad as they look.

I hope DC can keep the guys enthusiasm and confidence up over the next 4 weeks because it could be a really hard grind. If nothing else, beating csu would be a great way to end the season.

CSU and SDSU are our best chances but i think the pokes have proven if they play well they are very capable of getting the upset if we beat TCU or BYU at home i will be a little surprised but not much it all comes down to gameplan and execution

We've seemed to take two steps forward and one step back at different times this year. Hopefully, we can avoid that this week. If we can build on last week with a good showing (win) this week, I think that will go a long ways in building some confidence for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, after watching TCU a little this week, I think that could be another one step back game. However, I now look at BYU, SDSU and especially CSU as very winnable games.
