That new basketball arena is fucking awesome. Sold out, 15K+ there right now.

Here in Nebraska UNL is not the basketball team to watch. Folks in Nebraska that want to watch good basketball watch Creighton.

Ok? I think you have WYOnation confused with another team's forum, again. Let me help you

Go bitch somewhere else. There are plenty of other posters who bring up other things that aren't specifically Wyo hoops or football.
Get over yourself, go kick a football some more and act cool because of it.

You don't like the post, don't comment on it. What a concept right? :o

I mean really? The only reason you responded was just to post the link to huskerboard? Lol...dude.

I mean really? The only reason you responded to this post (as with most of your responses) was to tell someone to get over themselves? If you'd calm down a little I think you'd find this board a lot more enjoyable, and so would the rest of us.

So if I let people talk crap to but then don't respond it would be better?

By all means defend yourself, but do it with a little more tact and a little less aggression. You could have responded to cornpoke by saying something like "Just sharing something I thought was interesting. Thought it would be relevant because of the Tim Miles connection."

We all like you when you're not attacking other posters, Beav. We need our head sunshine pumper to balance out all the negativity that happens around here!

Fair enough.
I just get irritated when I post something then people find that to be the perfect time to jump down my throat.

You're so passive-aggressive that you're a caricature.

I went to see the building when they opened it the first time to the public on the day the Pokes played UNL. It is impressive and it made me a little sad that Tim Miles and UNL are aiming for the big time when we are giving up on our basketball program's drawing power. Remember when UNL thought 10,000 was almost a sellout and we new we could draw 15K+ for a really big game?

As for those who try to ignore UNL, I am among many Poke fans who have ties to UNL as well. Heck, even my academic adviser at UW was a UNL alumnus and fan. Cheyenne's market area draws in several counties in Nebraska. Nebraska is a natural rival in many ways and we should not ignore that. I admittedly envy UNL's academics and wish that Wyoming could follow in UNL's academic and institutional footsteps.

Finally, I was impressed by Tim Miles while he was at CSU and, because I went to grad school at UNL following my time as an undergrad at UW, I am pleased that CSU lost their good coach and that he went to UNL. That move was good for my interests in two ways.

Academics? Really? I'd say UW surpasses Nebraska in academic actuality and reputation. Unless you're talking soil science or something.

I think you need to look into the realities of attendance at sports events, especially the televised ones. With HDTV technology and the hassles of our post-9-11 world, this is the new reality. Sports venues are downsizing. And if you want to bring up "Jerry's World"- consider how wrong Jerry Jones has been for the past twenty years. In ten, that thing will be a white elephant-sized boil on the ass-end of Arlington...

The original post was about the impressive new, LARGER venue for UNL hoops in Lincoln. I do not have to reference the Jerryworld down in the Metroplex. Besides, that would be comparing apples to oranges. On the other hand, UNL has long had an inferior basketball program to ours. Yet they just upsized to a facility that has the capacity that we are trowing in the towel on. Another comparison is the University of Virginia that just built a new building that holds 15-16K. It is about an hour away from the nearest city.

We hear so much talk about not accepting mediocrity at the beginning of the football season, but I see reducing the A-A's maximum capacity down to a number (10-11K) that we should all agree is mediocre by our own standards as a structurally lowering our expectations. I have always thought of 10K as the bare minimum crowd for serious conference games. Now it will be the maximum possible attendance.

The solution has always been to build a program to fill what we have, not to replace seating with offices and then brag about sellouts at what will be about the 4th or 5th smallest building in the MWC.

How many years have we mocked Moby Gym down at CSU? Now we decided that UW needs to downsize to something comparable in order to meet our new, lower, attendance goals?

From a process standpoint, I am still upset that no men's basketball coach got to provide formal input into the planning process. Tom Burman, who is often criticized here for his low aspirations for UW sports, was the person who spoke for men's hoops in the planning documents that served as the basis for the decision about how much seating should be retained.

While neither school is known as an academic powerhouse, NU has a better overall reputation in the academic world than UW does. While the US News College Rankings are certianly not without some contreversy in terms of the methodolgy used, the two schools rankings illustrate my point. UW is ranked #161 among National Universities, while NU is ranked #101.

As much as us UW alums would like to think of UW as a prestigious academic institution, it certainly is not seen like that on a national level. To be quite frank, the stats suggest UW is a fairly mediocre academic institution. UW is able to attract some out-of-state applicants by keeping cost of attendence low and by offering progrmas/degrees in areas that can't be found in many other universities. However, the top students from around the country don't even have UW on their radar.

I'm gonna defend Cornpoke here, the title and description of this part of the message board is as follows:

Wyoming Basketball, Wrestling, etc
Everything Cowboy and Cowgirl Basketball, plus other Cowboy athletics

He wasn't off base in directing it to another location.

So you better go tell those people who start those "OT" threads in the football forum to not post those topics there.

I love how the number of seats post-renovation keeps getting smaller and smaller. When we first started discussing this months ago it was 12-13K, then it was 11-12K, now it's 10-11 with you calling 10K our new max. Can someone who actually has read/seen the renovation plans please post a firm number so that when people complain about it they can get it right.
