Sounds like a grey shirt. If he was red shirting he would be counted as being on the roster.
I guess I should have said grey shirt vs walk on. I haven't seen anything that says grey shirt other than posts on here. I have interpreted articles as he'll be a walk on freshman then get a scholarship as a sophomore.

I am not sure. Is the difference that a grey shirt isn't involved with the team during their grey shirt year? I would think he would be considered a wolk-on next year.

But that then begs the question, How many walk-ons can we have? We have Kelley and Averback and we have the kid from WSU that just joined as a walk-on. If we add Hunter as a walk-on does that mean we will loss on of the other guys? Thought there was a limit on walk-ons on the roster but maybe not.

As far as I can tell, an NCAA I basketball team can have 13 scholarship athletes and up 18 total bodies on the team. IF I read between the lines, that means we can have up to 5 walk ons.

Well you could probably have more than 5 walk-ons if you had less than 13 on scholarship, but I don't know why you'd do that.

A grey shirt in football can't be involved with the team until the spring semester after the season is completed I believe. Then they are considered a freshman the next fall kind of like a kid who graduates early and joins the team in the spring. I'm assuming it's the same for basketball.

That's a good point on roster size. It would answer the question if the limit is 15.

Some of the best news I've heard in quite sometime for Cowboy basketball, now it's gonna be fun going to Pine to watch him his senior season!!! Good on ya Hunter, way to don the Brown and Gold!!! GO POKES

A blog about the relationship between Hunter and the staff.

It sounds like Hunter's dad didn't want him to commit to Wyoming and pushed for him to leave the state.

That's not really the case. Todd was worried about the pressure involved with an in-state kid committing to the only school in the state. It puts a pretty big load on Hunter's back immediately. Todd just wanted him to explore other options and decide if that would work better for him than shouldering the load of an entire state.

That's good to know. The recent press made it sound like he wanted Hunter to go somewhere else.

It seems like Hunter has a good head on his shoulders, so he should be able to handle being an instant celebrity in Wyoming. It sounds like we've got a very solid young man, with a very solid family behind him.

The future looks bright for Wyoming basketball and Hunter Thompson.

I got that vibe too.

"As his dad, I’m also scared about the distractions of having every person in the state of Wyoming knowing him, wanting a piece of him, and that kind of scares me, and that’s kind of why I kind of was hoping he would just get away so he could be just another kid. But Wyoming is a giant teddy bear for him, so if he can deal with that pressure (that’s fine).
