Huge Game Vs UNLV

Im going to say it right now.. this is a must win.. (to get to the dance) UNLV had a great win vs AZ and this is at home for us. We have played a really crappy schedule and I wish we would do something about it.. yeah yeah.. I know It looked better on paper before the season started.. but we need to get rid of the really crappy teams those RPI killer ones.. we have sjsu already each year...

the teams we have a beat have a combined record of 25 -75
the teams we have lost to have a combined record of 18-6

I will be at the game tomorrow driving almost 6 hrs to get there.. I hope there are a lot of others that will do what it takes to get some people at that game.

I already have the "sick stomach feeling for the game!!! Lets go pokes

agreed, no excuses, it's in Laramie, the night sucks being a NY eve game, but it is what it is, get it done at HOME, show them all we're a force to be reckoned with, and take this on the road on Saturday at a really bad SJSU team as well....
Cmon Pokes get it done

I'm going to say it now...we are going to destroy UNLV. Outside of one game this year, they've been close to awful. Away from T&M, they've been flat out awful. Right now, they're very young and very full of themselves. They are not well coached, and after the Arizona win, they're pretty excited to get through this Wyoming game so that they can play Kansas.

People like to bitch about Wyoming these days, but the fact of the matter is that we are pretty damn good. We're 11-2, and our two losses have been to good teams on the road. Unfortunately, we're not to the point yet (maybe later this season) where we are absolutely expected to beat NCAA tournament teams on the road. If we protect our home floor and don't drop any head scratchers on the road, we'll have a sufficient resume for the tournament. That means that we'll have to go about 13-5 or 14-4 in conference play. Very achievable.

Back to the UNLV game, it's going to unfold similar to the Colorado game. It'll be reasonably close at halftime, then we're going to kick the shit out of them in the 2nd half. They're going to get frustrated having to defend for 30 full seconds per possession, then they're going to crumble with the pressure placed on each of their offensive possessions.

We couldn't have a better team coming in under a better scenario than UNLV opening MWC play after a win over #3 Arizona. We have the spotlight on us, and we're going to rise to the occasion in a big way. Fans will finally realize that we have a special team this year, and maybe we'll get some butts in the seats.

I totally agree that I think we take it to UNLV. Still, this is a huge game. We can start 1-0 or 0-1, then go on the road.

We need to protect the AA, and get a good confidence booster.

Pokes win, by 12. 62-50. Nance with 17 and 10, including a monster dunk that makes UNLV realize their 4 and 5 star recruits aint shit compared to Larry "the Akron Hammer" Nance.

Hankerson is the x factor. I've noticed that when he is hitting threes and creating and not getting TOs and offensive fouls we are damn near unstoppable.

If Hankerson's foot is bothering him, he will not be as quick on defense or be cutting as well to the hoop. The 3 will be his only effective weapon (if he is on) or possibly as an assister. My guess is that if he gets in his playing time will be limited.

Adams is the x factor of this game IMO it's all about how he controls Vaughn because they aren't going to have Hankerson on him I don't think. We need Adams on him because he is our all around best Athlete when it comes to Basketball.

I'm looking at the Pokes being killed by the 3. They haven't so far been able to stop a hot hand. As much as don't like it, and I hope I am wrong, I see the Pokes being spanked by UNLV. This will bring them down to reality and realize an 11-2 record so far is not that meaningfull going into Conference, where 4 teams have much better RPI's than they have.

We need Adams to not get into early foul trouble in this game like he seems to do a lot this season.

What has UNLV done, or what has UW not done, this year that could possibly lead you to believe that we could get spanked at home tomorrow? They aren't a good shooting team. They get blown out when they leave their home court and barely beat horrible teams when they are at home. Are you simply blinded by the name in their chest and a single good win this year?

UNLV is not a good team. I promise you this is true. Just like Colorado, unfortunately, is not a good team. Every dog has their day, and UNLV had theirs a week ago. They are going to come back to earth tomorrow.

UNLV has a crazy amount of talent and can win any game on their schedule. Obviously we know their coaching is horrible and may be even worse without Schroyer (HAHA!).

I don't know who tweeted it, but someone tweeted that the offense UNLV ran against #3 Arizona was the same offense that every pickup game across the country runs.... just a bunch of guys running and gunning trying to score a bunch of points without any real structure.

Bring that offense, with the youth they have, on the road into Laramie, WY, against a REAL defense, and a dominant Big in Larry, they will likely get shut down as a unit and get frustrated by our defense and our time killing offense.

UNLV can win this game for sure, but odds are they are going to have to be making every jump shot. Poorly ran offenses going against a Shyatt-Nance defense will not get many good looks, so they will have to make jumpers.
But if they are making them, they can get hot and put up a bunch of points in a couple minutes.

We need to keep Adams out of early foul trouble, not get in any long scoring droughts, and come ready to play and not have ANY post X-mas rust.

Foul trouble is the one thing Wyoming needs to stay away from in this game - not just Adams, but all of our players. You can bet that getting our players into foul trouble will be in UNLV's game plan. I think we are experienced enough to do this. We'll be ok if we just play within ourselves and don't try to force things.

UNLV has won the last 15 out of 17 vs Wyoming including 4 of 6 at Wyoming...wed will be 5 out of 7...Yawn! :coffee: on to Kansas!

Then move along to the Kansas board.

Agreed, a must win home game. Confidence builder to kick off conference play. I would give my left arm to be there but work and distance won't allow it. I hope the AA fills up w/ raucous fans and intimidates the crap out of the Runnin Rebels. How fun would that be......a conference win then go hit the town and take in the new year!!

I think Luke Martinez ruined any current b-ball players chances at hitting the town.

Walk softly and carry a big DUNK. Welcome to Dunk City, Rice n' Rebels.
This should be a kick ass NEW Years Celebration. Nance will set the tone, and Riley will seal the deal.

I wouldn't say UNLV is a bad team but they are going to rely on a freshman way to much and freshman make freshman mistakes.

I hate to bust any bubbles. But I'd be surprised If there are more than 4k there. Breaks my heart I can't be there, but I don't know why people think that there will be a big crowd there. We weren't getting big crowds when classes were in session and we were receiving votes. What gives you hope there will be a big crowd over Xmas break on nye??? I hope I am wrong. Go pokes. Beat unlv.

And it was -14 today without windchill. No clouds in the sky. Just pure subzero temperatures.
