With the total nuclear meltdown of this football program over the last several weeks, with zero in the way of light at the end of the tunnel, I just cannot see any way that the administration at UW can sell the football ticket buying public on another season of Christensen.
This season has been a nightmare beyond the pale of what anyone could have forecast - and although I believe that DC did the best job possible and exhausted all avenues to try and reach a level of consistent success, the results have unfortunately failed to materialize.
Let me make one thing clear. This season is done and over with.
There is no 'salvaging the season.'
The state's highest paid employee has not been able to develop a sustained winning environment during the five (5) years he's been on the job.
His job is to win football games.
He didn't win nearly enough.
Let him finish out the last two games, then do the right thing and then relieve him of his duties on Monday December 2.
For my money, Craig Bohl is the logical successor -- if UW can convince him to come to Laramie.
Bohl's ability to recruit the upper midwest states has been more than impressive, and if he can show the same success in getting kids to come to Wyoming that he has shown in getting kids to go to Fargo -- then I like his chances of doing very well at UW,
What is it with you and FCS coaches? How will our success come from a coach who can recruit down home FCS talent? We've had this before. Glenn was supposed to bring great success from his amazing success and national titles at Montana.
Why not try something that we haven't, which other schools in the MWC have tried and succeeded with, and that's get an already successful coach at a smaller FBS school.
We would be able to afford them, they know how to succeed at this level. The know how to recruit at this level any they know how to win at this level. Examples: Brady Hoke (SDS) and Urban Meyer (Utah). Both program have reaped the benefits while they were at the school and after they've left.
This is directed to Doc, I already know some of your others opinions on this.
KC provide me with some names of some candidates you might be referring to.
I like/love Bohl because of the reasons I have already stated.
We need someone who knows the terrain, and understands the nature of a school in an area like where Wyoming is situated.
The duality in many instances of ND State and Wyoming speak to me very loudly.
I'd ask you not to look at the Joe Glenn tenure and believe it would be the same situation that a guy like Bohl would produce.
Bohl
isn't Glenn, and Joe Glenn
is not Craig Bohl.
I will do so, but it will be later tonight. I have some family getting ready to leave. Look for it later.
Okay Doc, Here you go.
DC's contract. He currently sits at 1.2M a year with a bonus of 25K, His assistants are paid a total of 924K a year
My list in order:
1. Pete Lembo (Ball State)
Current rec: 24-12, Has had success at two stops in the FCS. Lehigh and Elon. Has shown success at our level. Currently makes 350K a year with a bonus of 265K his assistants are paid a total of 803K.
2.Mark Hudspeth (ULL)
Current rec: 26-10, Has had success at every stop hes had. Has had success at this level and is getting compensated for it. Currently makes 800K a year with a bonus of 105K. His assistants are paid a total of 895K. (His pay now, would make it hard for us to lure him away.
3. Matt Campbell (Toledo)
Current rec: 17-7, One of the youngest coaches and has had great success.
Currently makes 360K a year with a bonus of 305K. His assistants are paid a total of 754K. (We may be able to lure him with a decent rate.)
4. Larry Coker (UTSA)
Current rec: 5-5, Has UTSA competitive in his time there. Of course we all know his history and his success as well.
Currently makes 350K a year with a bonus of 30K. His assistants are paid a total of 669K. (I'm not sure if he considers this his retirement gig or not, if not, we may be able to get him. )
5. Frank Solich (Ohio)
Current rec: 65-48 at Ohio; 123-67 overall
Currently makes 500K a year with a bonus of 297K. His assistants are paid a total of 821K. (Again, not sure if this may be a retirement gig. He has built something special at Ohio, he may not leave until he retires.)
6.Rick Stockstill (Mid Tenn St)
Current rec: 49-48 (Don't let the record fool you, he has started building something at MTSU)
Currently makes 601K a year with a bonus of 149K. His assistants are paid a total of 809K.
Other notables:
Bobby Petrino (WKU), Bill Blankenship (Tulsa), Skip Holtz (LTU), Rod Carey (NIU),
Now, with what we currently pay our coach and his staff, would we not be able to get any of these guys a significant deal? The exception is Hudspeth.
But all of these guys are winners. Whether long time HC's or newcomers, they have built winners at our FBS level with below our conference level.
So why not try and get a Shyatt for football who may want to finish off his career here (Coker, Solich) and do it with success.
Or maybe we get one of these newcomers that wants to build with attitude to either get a better deal at a current school or go to a bigger school because of what he does here...( Hoke, Meyer).
