How much disrespect for Wyoming?

We are projected as an 8 seed in the nit tournament. I would be bummed if we don't make the NCAA tourney and will outright depressed if we are barely an nit team who has to travel and play in Provo first round.

Well a couple of things.

Right now a lot of people realize we haven't had Nance and with him having mono they probably didn't figure we would get him back by this week. So they are thinking we will lose games down the stretch. Which we still could but less likely with him in there, especially against the teams we have remaining on the schedule.

Remember the players had a players only team meeting right before the CSU game and then we came out and blew them out but then Nance got mono. So I like the chances of this team now with getting Nance back and the fact they got a couple of wins without him in there which should boost everyone else's confidence on the team now.

Also the chances of us making the NCAA tournament as an at large are pretty much gone even if we win out until the championship game . Even Tom Burman told the sports radio guys last week that the only way Wyoming gets a bid now is to win the MWC tourney because our OOC SOS is so bad.

Also I know Vorel tweeted that no MWC team has ever leapfrogged a team before but that was also when it was a balanced schedule and everyone played everyone else. Now with the unbalanced schedule that doesn't matter anymore so there is a lot more of a chance of them leap frogging BSU or CSU over us because of the OOC scheduling so Wyoming just needs to win the MWC tournament to get in. That is what it boils down to.

If Wyoming can win these last 4 games and win a game in the conference tournament they will get into the NIT easily so I don't think that is a worry at all. With Nance back and the new uptempo style and Shyatt coaching I like our chances . I can tell you right now the only team Wyoming needs to worry about in the MWC tourney is SDSU. CSU and BSU are similar type teams that take a lot of 3's and neither one matches up with us at all.

I was at USU when similar thing happened.

"Despite a stellar season in 2003-04 and a national top-25 ranking toward the end of the season, the Aggies did not receive an at-large tournament bid after being upset in the conference tournament, making them the last top-25 team in college basketball to be snubbed from the tournament. This decision earned the derision of coach Morrill, as the Aggies held a 25–3 record along with their ranking."

Gotta win baby and it will take care of itself. I am starting to believe that if CSU and/or BSU bites it the first round of the MWC tourney, and UW makes a run to championship game somehow, that even if we lose we maybe get in. But...I don't like leaving it to biased douches to decide our fate.

WIN OUT POKES AND STAY AWAY FROM NIT!

If for some reason, we do not make the NCAA, the NIT is not exactly a bad tournament to be in. I would love the NCAA, but if we get left out, the NIT would be good at least and a good step up from previous years.

I'm okay with the NIT, if the Pokes don't do enough to make the tournament. However, if the Pokes are seeded #2 and advance further than BSU and CSU, then Wyoming should be in over both of those teams. If not, then there is something seriously wrong with the whole process.

That would be a road game at BYU man, oh man how satisfying would that be to go into the "toilet bowl" Marriott Center and beating BYU, for them going to WCC...lol.....I'd almost think of attending that one, even though i said I'd never attend another sporting event on the BYU campus...lol

I would love to watch the Pokes play again this year and MLM Town is like 60 mins from me. That said, I hate the condescension I feel when walking into Marriot Center...ugh. The thought makes me cringe. I would rather watch the Pokes on CBS on TV than in person in Provo.

when I lived there for my 3 year stint in SLC, i made the trek to BYU once for a Wyo game, we lost, and then once again to see James Johnson, a Cheyenne East graduate, when he played for Wake Forest, I was the only person in the stands that day wearing a Wyoming sweatshirt, shoulda seen all the weird looks I got that day...lol
Never liked attending events in Provo at all, plus I was really drunk with my fake binoculars and whisky and their Caffeine Free Coke...lol

Talk about funny looks...try being an LDS cowboy fan. I have an extensive UW collection that is worn regularly. The condescension is still alive and well. My 4 year old daughter got lit up by grown adults for having a pink and green Wyoming hoodie on. BYU is an embarrassment. Once again, makes me cringe thinking of attending another game there.

My last game there was when Ewing and Williams played. 2006 I think. We got smoked.

i think that's when i went there was 05 or 07 or 08, can't really remember, also to throw this out there going to Rice Eccles and Huntsman Center was a bit better, but I stress that "a bit", Utah fans are in their own little world to say the least and you know that all too well...lol

Do you ever remember the story about the Wyo fan, holding a sign outside the Marriot Center prior to a UW / Whiner game that said "Welcome To The House That Porn Built"? Absolute classic.

There's several threads discussing this on the other board as well and the general consensus seems to be that we are going to get majorly screwed over by the committee and Wyoming will always be disrespected because of our nature.

Frankly I am surprised at the number of folks who still believe we have legitimate at large chances. If you take off the brown and gold glasses it's much easier to make a case against the Pokes than it is to make one for them. It seems the only thing we are hanging out hats on is the fact that we currently sit 3-0 vs. BSU/CSU and those teams themselves have serious holes in their respective resumes as well. Other than that, what would a non-biased observer see on our resume to warrant an at-large bid? We've already been over the atrocious SOS many times.

Even though we were without Nance, would an at-large team get blown out by a 250th ranked Air Force team? If CSU lost Avila and got blown out by AFA you bet we would be asking the same question, because the entire board here expected us to crush AFA even without Nance. Dig up those thread predictions. CSU lost Avila and won a game by 50 points. I'm just saying those are things a neutral observer would be saying.

We dug this hole we are in, (needing to win the MW tournament, our AD himself is on record saying this is likely the case). We dug it due to poor scheduling and not winning the games we needed to. Nothing we can do but win the tournament and make this a moot point. I don't think we're going to finish 4-0 in the regular season anyway, I think we likely drop one somewhere along the way. That's OK because it's all about finding a way for the team to peak in Las Vegas. Hope we can win a conference tournament for the first time in my lifetime that I can remember.

Agreed. Our at large chances died in Logan.

I believe our true at large chances died against SMU and the nail in the coffin was CAL after that the rest was just a hope and a prayer. The USU game hurt us bad but not as bad as the OOC loses.

I think it's damn near impossible for the team not to develop an "us against the world" mentality right now. If they watch any MWC basketball on CBS or watch any basketball tournament speculation on any channel, they will notice that no one even considers us with an at large chance.

I think they're going to have a lot to prove come tournament time. Hopefully they'll react like we all want to see: kick open the door to the NCAA tournament by any means necessary and charge through it to reek havoc on all that said they couldn't do it.

We aren't mentioned because we don't have any realistic at large chances. That being said I hope the team does develop that attitude to help them win the MW tournament.

I'm no different, I don't think we have a chance at an at large bid. Still, having watched some recent MWC games on CBS, I'm about sick of hearing about "bad losses" that Wyoming took and how we don't have any good wins. That's all b.s. and it's exactly the kind of thing that can motivate our team and unite our fan base down the stretch.

Hopefully we'll respond by rolling through the MWC tournament and proving them all wrong.

Nit wouldn't be a bad option without the big dance. I guess it was that we would be projected to barely make the nit that is sad.

I want Boise St. in the MWC tournament. Would love to shut their fan base up. They are starting to get all high and mighty with basketball now and it is funny to watch.
