How many yards would Hill need to break Pumphrey's MWC record.

Do bowl games count towards all this? How many more games is pumphrey averaging? At least one a year I'd imagine

I thought I heard that bowl games don't count during the game broadcast. Either Ricky Williams or Ron Dane would be in the lead if they added bowl yardage, or some such nonsense. They discussed it though and I don't think bowl yardage counts.

But championship games do. So pumphrey has one more last year and the year before?

The year before was Fresneck I think, but SDSU was definitely in it last year, when they packed a whopping 20,000 fans in for AFA.

20k isn't bad. I guarantee you we won't even come close to that if we win at UNM and host the title game. 15k would be my guess. Obviously they have like 4x as many students and 100x the local population, but still when it comes to attendance any criticism from Wyoming fans falls under the category of glass houses.
what on god's green earth makes you think we wouldn't eclipse 15k for a home conference championship in a year that we've averaged over 20k?

Unfortunately - these factors come into play and will largely effect attendance:

1. Game is on national TV (ESPN - not 2, not U, not 3, not the ocho, THE ESPN)
2. Weather is supposed to be high of 28 that day, kick off, more like 20, windchill...eh...10?
3. 5:45pm Kick off time, eliminate most from more than 2 hours away
4. We have a repeat game that only drew 18k the first time, 2 weeks prior

I am sure those are also the reasons why MWC offices lobbied hard for the referee performance to go the way it went last Saturday.
where are you getting the kick time? the mw website still says TBA

i ask because i'm trying to get babysitters on retainer....and if we can be back to casper before midnight that would be very helpful

UW announced that the Northern Iowa basketball game will be at 1 PM now (was originally scheduled for 4 PM) so it will be very convenient to take in a doubleheader if the Pokes make it to the title game.

Of course, I hope a lot of people make the trip to Laramie that day no matter what. The BB team will need all the help they can get against a very good opponent.

I would say McPeachy covered most of the reasons, but I would add two key components:

1. Season ticket holders. Our announced attendance today includes all the season ticket holders regardless of whether they show up. That includes some folks that may buy season tickets but live far away and some businesses that hold tickets. It is highly likely that a percentage of season ticket holders will not purchase tickets for the title game due to their own availability, etc.

2. Students. I assume that students would have to purchase tickets just like anyone else. I would guess student attendance will be slightly depressed as a result.

These are factors that typically result in postseason basketball games for the NIT or CBI showing lower attendance than you would expect and they played into the fact that SDSU drew less than what they would for a regular season game.

I really hope we make the title game, but be prepared for 15k attendance and a lot of mockery coming from opposing fan message boards (which would be nice to counter with pictures of a shiny trophy, but that is obviously getting ahead of ourselves).

Did you see that they announced there would be a "watch party" in the AA following the hoops game? I, for the life of me, didn't understand the thinking behind that. Still don't.

If the Cowboy Football team earns a berth in the MW Championship game and that game is played in San Diego, a watch party for the Championship Game will be held in the Arena-Auditorium, beginning at 5 p.m., M.T.

Makes a lot of sense to me.....

Predicts a Wyoming loss against NM, and a Boise loss against AFA. Makes no sense. And is in poor taste to publish.

It's not predicting anything. It's giving people the ability to plan ahead.

It lays out opportunities for all scenarios. Nothing in poor taste for that

And who is to say that if Wyoming wins it still won't be in San Diego, there is no guarantee that if Wyo wins Saturday, that the game is in Laramie.

this.....there's still a ton of scenarios that could play out

For the record if we only have 15000 for the first mountain west championship in school history I will be extremely disappointed. School will still be in session and I'm sure students will still show up as what do they have better to do?

I concede that if weather is ugly 15000 is likely but if roads are clear and weather reasonable I would expect the same turnout as the first San Diego state game.

All this is moot until we are playing this game however.

SO, you are both saying Wyoming Athletics should have waited until SUNDAY to announce a hoops game-time change, and a viewing party, etc.????

I agree. LMAO.

Game time should have been changed regardless of if Wyo hosts or not. The view party will give people that are hesitant about going to basketball (if championship game is on the road), incentive to just but their tickets now and make plans to be in Laramie regardless of this week's outcomes.

I actually think this is a smart move, some people can't just decide to up and drive to Laramie on only 6 days notice.

i guess my opinion is if this is the biggest thing for us to complain about, then i'm pretty tickled with the football season overall

this time last year the athletic department had a really easy choice for what to do during the championship.......i'll take this problem any day

"Biggest thing to complain about"...hmmm. Don't confuse my opinion of how things should have been communicated, to a complaint. And that certainly isn't the case here.

But...I still wished that UW would have waited on it. At best - call me superstitious. There you go.

Well fuck them then, they are probably 87 years old and sit in the Wildcatter anyway. In this "instant information" world, 6 days is close to eternity. Hell, I know people who have met their wife, planned the wedding and honeymoon, and got married in less time.

i think that's the angle i'm coming from as well.......something inside me says that as soon as i start thinking about the c-word we will get slaughtered by new mexico and end up playing in the Joe's Tire Shop Bowl and Pancake Breakfast
