How far away from being competitive?

If he doesn't pan out, Chandler Garrett will be there to step in.

Garrett will step in Day 1 and instantly be better than Smith, and it won't even be close.

A comparison:
Smith, senior season HS: 126-221-1,677-14-8 (in 12 games)
Garrett, senior season HS: 145-229-2,066-16-8 (through 8 games)
This is kinda what I was alluding to. More impressed with Garrett's tape than what I saw from Allen in brief action against one of the worst FBS defenses Wyoming will ever see. Those guys are getting run by bed & breakfasts. Won't be shocked if Chandler joins the youth movement next fall.

Did you ever watch Allen's JC tape?

From being competitive...I agree. Competitive, as in we are not pissing our pants against such juggernauts as North Dakota, Eastern Whomever, Appalachian Something, and New Mexico. And we certainly were not competitive against AFA and Boise...but it will be nice someday to be able to. And obviously we competed against Nevada.

"Competitive" in my eyes, is different than winning MWC championships BTW.

I don't know, usu and BSU are close to taking the next step and should be real playoff contenders. After that, you have an upward trending SDSU, UNM, UNLV, FSU, SJSU, NV, and CSU. AF is always solid. Sure HI is a bit down, but they are on a freaking island in paradise; recruiting is more like sorting through applicants.

I don't know; that is like murder's row or something. We have to give Bohl and Burman lots of time and just be patient.

Your sarcasm kills me. All are definitely upward trending!

I agree.

We are only playing to not get beat by 40 right now. There doesn't seem to be any will to win. I have said it before and I am going to say it again. Players "Learn how to lose" it gets easier every time and harder to turn around once you have a tradition of losing.

Not sure what that means.

If we start being routinely in the top 2-3 of the MWC, and winning the championship with some acceptable frequency, that will be so much better than we've been for the last five decades it's almost hallucinatory.

If that happens, Bohl can coach here until he's 95, the fans will be ecastatic, and...hell...even you will be happy.

This can be seen all over the state of Wyoming in High School football. Your traditional football power houses always rein. Coaches come and go at the high schools that lose but it never changes.......why because the kids are used to losing. Look at the coaching turnover and compare records.......it is all relatively the same.

Isn't Bohl like 90 already?

Couldn't agree more with this part of your post..."if we start being..."

Couldn't agree more with your last sentence either. Except for the snide assed remark about "even you will be happy". You don't know me man...nothing about me...ZERO. Other than what I post here of course - which most of the time is full of concern, frustration, disbelief, anger, and confusion. But that is Wyoming football...largely since about 1996-ish.

Well, what irks me is our K Tristan Bailey is a mere 1 for 7 on FGs this year. Hard to win when you do not have a reliable kicker, yet alone decent to above average special teams. In parallel, the defense has just 5 sacks. FIVE. Where is the pressure on the QB? To me those are both telltale signs much work has to be done in order to become competitive.

How many freshman playing right now? How many freshman who got beat by a top team in our league.
We lost. Bad. We didn't give up. And we competed.

- with a crap ton of freshman

- a stud Soph RB

- a 3rd String Fresh QB

- Young OL

- Extremely young D backfield... Are any of them above a fresh?

- and this Young team lost about as bad as an experienced Boise team did on the same field a few weeks ago...

Did you expect a win? Bohl a bad hire? Who the hell would win in this position? Can Bohl help injuries to key players (Wick, Gentry, Coffman)
Can he control the lack of recruiting on D years before he got here? Seriously we have established that our D players were overall horrid the last two or three years of the DC era. And we are in year two of Bohl. And he's playing a vast majority of his guys (still young) all over on D.
You can blame Bohl all you want. But you could give any coach this situation and we are still here. We have to grow out of it. Keep building.
