How are the Pokes gonna do as the frontrunner?

The team grew up faster then anyone could really hope for. Now this team isn't the underdog. The schedule looks built for success. Another game at home next is just what the doctor ordered. Can they hold out on the road? The SDSU game is gonna be wicked  and New Mexico on the road could be for all the marbles. Can't afford another loss as BSU's schedule looks like they'll win out. What a weird position to be in, it's so unfamiliar. I hope they hold out. If they win out they might end up in the top 25???? :yikes: Unreal

Interesting that the bowl projection has us in third. Boise in Vegas, SDSU in SD and us in Boise. Lots of games left, but the Pokes literally control themselves. Crazy.

I would love Vegas bowl. BYU ruined the poinsettia bowl this year, and Boise Bowl is vs MAC.

We have essentially a two-game lead on BSU thanks to the win, which means we hold the tiebreaker over them. The key could be that New Mexico game, as a loss could force a potential three-way tie scenario.

I hope they celebrate hard today and get back to work with 100% focus tomorrow. Yesterday was awesome, but we can lose any and all games remaining if we get cocky.

I do believe that Bohl is the type of coach who makes sure his teams consistently get better as the season progresses because they learn their lessons and don't let success get to their heads. Hopefully he proves me right.

There's a whole lot to play for. There's still a possibility we could end up in the Cotton Bowl. If Western Michigan loses and Wyoming wins out, we could end up in the Cotton Bowl. We'll have to play SDSU still. If we win out, we'll have to play them twice.

We'll see if Wyoming shits the bed, but this team has the potential for great things in the palms of their hands. Wyoming literally controls it's own destiny. We could finish the season on a nine game win streak and a berth in the Cotton bowl.

One game at a time. Go Pokes. Beat USU and put the rifle in the trophy case next to the boot.

I really love the scheduling this year. This is why you play UP against opponents. The Nebraska game saw us play what should be the nastiest D we see all year on the road. After a squad gets that kind of test they become more ready for a challenge like BSU. SDSU is gonna be a close one but its' not like they haven't seen some real opponents yet. I hope they keep scheduling legit teams in the future. It just helps you find out where your at and look what that does for a season like this. The team knew they could hang with top 25 competion heading into the biggest game if they just play their game. I look for them to be focused and dialed in to the end of the year.

Yup, we could drop the SDSU game and still end up in the championship game, but drop the New Mexico game (assuming they win out) and it becomes a mess.

To stay away from that three-way tie scenario the Pokes need to take care of business at home and at UNLV. It would also be nice to see UNM get tripped up on the road at either USU or CS-ewe (or both). The sheep should still have bowl aspirations by the time they play the Lobos in Fort Collins.

I think we're starting to see Bohl's toughness stamp on the program. Boise and CS-ewe both had early double-digit leads on the Pokes before WYO blew them out, scoring-wise, the rest of the way.

agreed take care of Utah State this weekend 1st and foremost then the chips will fall where they may, my only focus is on USU this weekend as should it be with the Pokes

Isn't it great to be talking about stuff like this!!!

I was looking back through the board archives, and when DC was canned someone posted a link to a WTE piece (might've been a letter to the editor, not sure).

Whoever wrote it, gave us gems like:
-Sorry, but there are better uses for taxpayers’ money than paying for programs that never will be competitive.
-It’s imperative that UW accept its limitations and work to diminish expectations of its supporters. That is a harsh assessment, yes, but facing reality will get UW off the treadmill of promise, fail, buyout, promise, fail, buyout.
-And that is where expectations come in. They are too high across the state n from the fans to lawmakers to Mr. Burman himself. One reason for the constant turnover in coaches (and athletics directors) is that they are expected to do more than is possible, and they make it worse by promising more than they can deliver. UW football is never going to play in a BCS bowl, and it is doubtful it ever will win the Mountain West Conference. At best, it should seek to be more competitive in the MW.
-It’s time to accept reality. UW should lower its expectations and stop chasing the Holy Grail of football success. And lawmakers must resist the temptation to buy in with precious tax dollars that can be better used for almost anything else.

I don't know how we'll do as frontrunners. I don't know how we'll finish the season. But isn't it nice for these "too high expectations" are beginning to be validated?! I'm not even from there, but I can feel the pride coming out of Wyoming. This seems to be a completely different feel. Never accept mediocrity!

And SDPoke (one of them, there's a couple with a similar screen name) wanted to drop to FCS for similar reasons.
