a coaching tree...

it started with Devaney... whom went to build the power house in Nebraska. guess who came out of the Nebraska Devaney tree. Osborne. read here

With Devaney at Wyoming, his defensive line coach was??? Lloyd Eaton. Whom made a name for himself for creating successful small defensive lineman. Read here.

guess who was Eaton's assistant? Roach!

I hadn't read any of this... so for those guys that have, I'm not trying to insult your intelligence.

All I'm trying to say, is that success can be found in the War. It can't, however, follow the same mold that BCS schools have the luxury of building. Wyoming will always have to build its success around what it can recruit. It has to build a new system of fundamentals to meet the requirements that our type of recruits can learn.

I think the spread worked for roach and tiller because he created a system that played to our strengths and attacked the weaknesses (linebackers that can cover) of big time programs "At THAT TIME".

because of the current shift towards more nickel coverage coming to all programs, do to the increased amount of offensive spread attacks at all levels of football; we are no longer the rare offensive set that we used to be.

we need to reinvent ourselves offensively and defensively. We need forward thinking coaches that can adapt and create change, because we will never out recruit anybody for high-end talent.

Even the pistol is old news. where can we find a coach that can create what we need consistently to achieve enough successful years to establish a reputation, which will lead to increased winning percentage and recruiting capabilities?

We can't go pro-set, spread isnt working as well as it should... defensively the 4-4 is a no-go for us, the 3-4 isn't so hot at stopping the middle hand-off.

Maybe we need a coach that can train a 5-2-4? Maybe we need an offense with Two fullbacks and three tight-ends?

We had success nationally a long time ago due to a set of forward thinking minds that took advantage of their weaknesses, and created a winner.

no more "copy and paste" coaching for us is what I say. we need to get out a pencil and paper and redraft how we play the game of football!

that post exhausted me.

Some good points here. I have always felt Wyoming should run a unique gimmicky offense. Well the spread is no longer gimmicky nor unique. Every defensive coordinator prepares for it just about every game. While I have always felt X's and O's are overrated compared to execution there is something to be said about running a unique offense that defenses don't prepare for every week. Any offense works if executed correctly.

bump...

you know whats crazy... we hired a guy that not only brings us back to our roots, he is actually from the devaney tree.

in bohl we trust.

call us the phoenix program... we rise from our ashes to burn brighter.

I thinkCraig was a great hire for you guys, give him a year or two and I am sure he will get you "Bohl Eligible"

Would be cool to watch Wyoming be competitive again and own BSU for awhile I was sick of that team before they went on their run.....why not return the favor?
