Hiring the coach & timing...

Seems to me like Burman's decision to hire Bohl has given him (Burman) an extra 2 years of no pressure on the hire. Or as I see it, and extra 2 - 3 years of salary he will collect (Burman) from the State of Wyoming while he dummies down the department even further.

I can hear it now, "We need to be patient, we have a small budget, and our coach was in the middle of his 3rd national championship run when we hired him. That is something I wouldn't have taken away from anyone."

I can't think of any other examples of FBS teams hiring a new coach (and staff) and being ok with that coach (and staff) not taking the position for a month - regardless the reason (hired December 7th). Maybe I am wrong, but to me, it seems like the hire put us immediately at a competitive disadvantage. One I certainly hope the talent of Bohl & staff can dig out of.

Is Burman that smart? Or that dumb! :?

I think it depends on basketball.

If Shyatt has a decent year and is competitive, I think Burman survives for at least the next two years, especially considering the work that will be starting at the AA. If the Pokes falter in MBB, I think the heat will be on, irrespective of the AA remodel. If MBB is horrid in conference play, so long as volleyball continues its improvement from the end of the year, wrestling continues to emerge as a top tier national program, Legerski wins or is close to a championship in WBB and soccer has a good year, the heat will subside a bit.

Certainly, Tom bought some time with Bohl. Even so, I truly believe that DC will be the last football coach Tom fires at UW.

And Peachy, please understand that this is what I think will happen - not necessarily what I think should happen.

I will be patient to an extent as long as I see a change happening and overall improvement on both sides of the ball, I don't think that the spread was the best thing to ever bring here, with such a porous defense if you go 3 and out you have an already gassed d. I think we'll be fine and let's develop JT into a Conference champion.
Time is ticking, but hopefully it all point to the right direction and MORE wins in the conference.
still trying to decide which game I want to attend this next year, Oregon or Mich St.

I have to agree with Lawpoke. I think Tommy has purchased a bit of time with Bohl, but I also think Shyatt lays a huge egg this year (5-13 or 4-14 in conference play and loses the first game of the MWC tournament). Legerski will probably be the biggest reason Tommy sticks around for a while. If Bohl goes sub .500 and the men's basketball team shows no improvement in the 2014-2015 season, then Tommy boy leaves along with Shyatt in the spring of 2015. Unfortunately, I just don't see him going before them. Dude has more lives than a cat.

This. I can do patience, but you have to show me something. Getting blown out by every team that was worth a damn was not showing me something. Blowing out the turds of the conference was expected, but we couldn't even get that done. I can handle losing to the Boise States and Fresno States of the conference for the first couple years, but not by 40 points. I'm happy we're beating Hawaii and New Mexico, but not happy that we're only beating them by 1 score. I will consider this season a step in the right direction if we never lose by more than 14 points.

Spot on - with a pocket full of luck to go with. With one president who was largely complacent and just liked having fresh snacks in the media room in the AA, to another who never got the chance to rock the good 'ol boys club. And on we go.

This. I would absolutely like to once, just once, actually knock off somebody big. Whether it was somebody in one of the BCS conferences or just somebody in the top 2-3 of our conference. With all the faults that Joe Glenn had as coach, I will always admire the fact that he did pull out some wins vs bigger schools. Once upon a time we actually beat UCLA, Ole Miss twice, Virginia, and Tennessee. Sure maybe they weren't all that great when we played them, but neither was Nebraska this year. I think it's pathetic that we haven't beaten a team ranked in the top 25 since (I think) 1999. It hasn't been for lack of them on the schedule. I'd like to actually make a serious push toward winning the conference, preferably 3rd or better. I'd like to once, just once, have a game where we thoroughly dominated somebody on both sides of the ball and played a full complete game for an entire 4 quarters. And I'd like it to be against somebody who isn't FCS or who could be found on ESPN's Bottom 10 rankings.

Burman is an idiot.....he demonstrated that several times with holding on to CDC for much too long. The Bohl hire could bail him out in Football. Fans need to give Bohl and honest 4 years to see what his recruits are going to do. He is a true CEO type of head coach that runs a very professional and effective program. If Bohl can't do it, then there really needs to be an examination for something systemic that is failing in WYO athletics.

I think Shyatt will be fine. He is a solid coach and just needs some space. Last year fell apart because Martinez was a fool. That is not on Shyatt.

Appearing now that the month hiatus is actually wrecking some havoc on the 2014 UW football roster. More to come.

Yeah I'd say it speaks volumes to the Wyo players that Bohl wasn't committed to them whether that is the case or not. I bet we lose more, some of that was expected but it still sucks.
