High point of the 2013 season

A question that one may ponder and then refer to a game the Cowboys actually won.

For myself, however, the high point of the 2013 season was a game that the Pokes actually lost.

The date: Saturday August 31

The opener of this season against Nebraska was to me, the most inspiring 4 quarters of football that Wyoming played this year.

True the score was against us, and yes our defense set the tone for the season by giving up massive numbers of yards and points.

But to me, I saw a team in the Pokes that fought - and fought valiantly, all day, against a Cornhusker football team that had more talent, had more depth, and had over 100K fans in attendance on a big time football stage.

The Pokes that day looked more physical on both sides of the line than they did a year ago - they got big plays, made a few big stops, and were in the game right to the final play of the afternoon.

The pride I felt for the Brown & Gold that day welled within me, and I thought that the game would be a starting point for a season that made us forget all about the 2102 train wreck.

Instead...we know what followed.

Some may point to the Air Force win in Colorado Springs as their high moment this season.

To me, it got no better than the effort and the attempt to steal one on the road, the opener, of what turned out to be a second consecutive train wreck season of Wyoming Cowboys Football.

It's time for 'Bohl-Ball', in Laramie.

High point for me was at the academy. Loved that one.

Bohl - no thanks. D1 - FBS current head coach all the way.

I would agree, for me the high point was kicking ass and taking names at Springs. But I am 100% on board with Bohl, and if we can't get him for any reason i wouldn't be against chasing thr Ball St guy

Nebraska started things off right for sure. I was extremely optimistic at the time, and feeling pretty good about being a Wyoming football fan. The high point for me was the game at Air Force. We executed at a high level all the way through that game. It looked like the team was following their motto of "Locked In", but the coaching staff couldn't keep that fire burning.

I'm also a believer that Bohl could make great things happen in Laramie. I'm not against anyone in kansascowboy's list from another thread, but I do believe that we should take a good hard look at Craig Bohl.

Could not agree with you more on any of this

Hopefully the high point is in a few weeks after a Bowl win ;)

Right...you might as well just start the 2014 Christensen leads Wyoming to a BCS bowl thread again.

Nope.
It will be 2014 Christensen leads Wyo to the 4 team playoff, and national title game over Alabama.

Being in attendance in Lincoln for the Nebraska Wyoming game, after that game I really thought we had something to be proud of, all the NU fans raving about how great Brett Smith and our team and how they'd root for us the rest of the year, and how they wish they had a Brett Smith at QB. about the most fun i've had at any away game I been to. I really thought Brett might have had NFL looks and we'd have a great season, man was I off. Still fun

The high point came in a dream last night. The dream was that Dave got the boot after losing the last game of the season. I woke with a smile and changed my pajamas and the sheets.

Not sure if we would have a chance in hell to get him, but Ed Orgeron would be my pick. He'll be leaving USC soon.

I believe that Joe Glenn was 1-0 against Orgeron when the Cowboys won at Ole Miss.

I don't think Orgeron would come here either, but he recruited some impressive classes to Ole Miss.

Not sure how many of the Bohl-backers understand he didn't build that program from the ground up. He inherited an already successful program and kept it on an upward trajectory.

While NDSU was successful, he took them to a whole different tier. Plus, I feel like that he could recruit to Laramie, Fargo is fairly similar. And I personally think a defensive minded guy would be better, because to me, in the shitty weather of some games here, defense will keep you in it. Defense is pretty constant, regardless of weather. Much more than Offense, anyways. Bohl is, I think the best defensive guy on the lists I've been seeing

This here, plus he did build that program at the FCS level, he took them up from D2. He was also very successful as a DC at Nebraska during their hay day so he has the top coordinator plus being an extremely successful coach for the past 11 years. The similarities in recruiting to Fargo and Laramie are obvious, and a lot of successful coaches come from FCS, some don't pan out sure, but a lot of them do.

This is why I added Solich, Hudspeth, and Stockstill, these guys have completely turned their programs around.
Ohio was 11-35 fours prior to Solich, it took him four years to really turn Ohio into a consistant winner.
MTSU was 17-29 four years prior to Stockstill, he's done well into turning them around.
ULL was 18-30 four years prior to Hudspeth, he has spared no expense and has had great success every year.

Hudspeth is one I havent mentioned but also think he would be a great one

I do like some on your list Kansas, probably my top two from that list are Campbell and Lembo with Campbell being my top choice out of that group. I would not be opposed to any on that list though, the only FCS coach I would want is Bohl any other candidate should come from FBS IMO.

I vote Bob Stitt for head coach or even offensive coordinator (if he would be willing to accept the position which I have my doubts). An innovative coach that is able to get the most out of limited talent. There is a reason that numerous top BCS coaches consult with this head coach of a D2 school.

Colorado Mines had about one winning season in the 50 years prior to him becoming Head Coach in 2001 and have only had one season under .500 since. There may be no other school with greater recruiting disadvantages than Colorado Mines, yet every year there they are at the top of the RMAC (finishing 2nd this year to D2's top ranked CSU-Pueblo).

...but, because he is not a big name, he will likely go overlooked again.

Agreed, but my top 2 from his list of FBS coaches would be Lembo and Hudspeth, Lembo being the top one there
