Herndon working on that shot

I'm really excited to watch Herndon play this season. He's looking ready for a breakout year!

I definitely think Herndon will develop into a go to player for the Pokes. By the time he is a Jr/Sr, he will probably be about 6'10" 225 (I think he was up to 210 or 215 before Mono) with a fluid inside/outside game and in his 4th/5th year with the program. All conference type talent.

There will be some growing pains this year as he is thrust into a starter's role, but watching his development will be one of the primary joys of this upcoming season.

I think he knows what his potential is and is working to meet that. He could develop into an NBA type player if he bulks up and plays a little more physical inside. His shot looks to be coming along nicely.

Keep it up Alan and other Pokes!!

Take away all the netting and he misses every one

What? He drained every shot or you just being funny?
All joking aside, what did he shoot this last season from 3? like 15%? His perimeter jumper actually needs some work.

If he can become more consistent from 3, bulk up some more, and be more physical down low, he'll be a force to be reckoned with. He has the tools, just needs to sharpen them.

Very small sample size though. He clearly needs to continue to develop his shot and his comfort level shooting the ball, but to my uneducated eye his mechanics and form are quite a bit better than Nance in terms of the perimeter shot.

To me, he looks like a guy that can shoot but hasn't been able to put it together in game action. He was only 2-17 on the year, but remember that Grabau was 2-13 in his freshman year. Obviously Herndon isn't going to become Grabau from beyond the arc, but I think he can provide a credible threat from the perimeter which can really open up his options offensively. He doesn't have the back to the basket post game to generate attention from the defense, but with his long strides it takes him one dribble to get from the arc to the rim. If they have to defend him closely on the arc (and late close outs aren't going to do the job against Al with his length), it will open up opportunities for him to put the ball on the floor and opens up chances for off the ball cuts to the rim when he gets a defender trying to chase him to the arc.

I think it will take time to hone those skills and we will see some turnovers In the process, but the tool set is there.

I agree, his stroke does look good. Better than Larry's. Larry holds the ball in a funny position and keeps his left hand at a funny angle on his long jumpers. Larry's shot looked a tad odd, but it was highly effective!
