Here We Are Headed Into Year Three...

and it seems our offense is in the exact same position it was when DC arrived. Really poor offensive line play and inconsistent wide receiver play. I'd say the only thing that has gotten better on the offensive side of the ball is the improvement in the turnover margin.

I was pumped when DC got us to a bowl in his first season, but his neglect of the offensive line in recruiting is glaring. Granted, offensive line is probably the hardest position to recruit in college football, but this offense isn't going anywhere until we get some better offensive linemen in this program. At this point, we would might be better off spending our entire recruiting budget this year on going after 5 really good offesnive linemen and forget recruiting any other position until that is done.

Sorry to be a downer, but I was absolutely shocked at the offesnive line play in both scrimmages. Quite frankly, I'm not sure I've ever seen this poor of offensive line play since I've started following UW closely. I just can't see us doing very well this year with that kind of O-line play. Something needs to change quickly if we ever want to get that offense off the ground in the DC era.

It is pretty amazing we have such poor o-line play for so many years. I don't believe Glenn ever had a decent line and I am positive Koening didn't either. It seems there are years when we have a few good individual lineman (Nick Carlson at center is decent) but the unit as whole is never solid.

As you point out it is probably the hardest position to recruit, but maybe DC should think about hiring a top tier o-line coach to develop some players if he can't find quality o-lineman.

Nick Johnson and Goldberg made for a good line... I just dont like people saying were in the same spot as three years ago because we arent. We have way more talent and its young talen DC knows what he is doing

I agree, I think our talent level is vastly improved from three years ago in most areas. I am not sure if our o-line is much better though. Although I think Dire and Fleishman could be great lineman if healthy (sucks that we will never get to see Dire play). I can't say that I am not dissappointed in some of the seniors on this years line, maybe we should start paying top dollar and pay some players like the SEC teams.

I agree. Watching the limited film on the scrimmages I can't tell much about the Oline, but I can tell you we look twice as athletic as the New Mexico Bowl team. I am also VERY sure that Miller Jr. will be a slot by the time we play Weber State. I'm excited for Fall Ball and the battle between Pittser and Smith for the starting spot. I think our defense is going to be improved as well, again because of the better athletes. I saw CSN predicted us to be 3rd to the bottom in the conference and for CSU to be about 4th....are you serious? Did you not see the whoopin we put on CSU last year with a team that was younger/ not as good as what we have this year? I don't think we lose anything at QB with Smith and maybe gain with Pittser(we will see?)!
