Wyoming adds 2 years to Schroyer’s contract
LARAMIE (AP) — Wyoming announced Wednesday that it has extended coach Heath Schroyer’s contract through the 2013-2014 season and boosted his base annual salary from $150,000 to $160,000.
Schroyer has led Wyoming to an overall record of 31-32 in his first two years, including a 19-14 mark this past season.
The Cowboys made their first postseason appearance in six years this March, losing to Northeastern in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.
Schroyer’s original five-year deal was set to expire in two years, after the 2011-2012 season.
“In his first two years, Heath (Schroyer) has done an excellent job of turning our men’s basketball program in a positive direction both from a competitive standpoint and in the classroom,” UW Athletics Director Tom Burman said.
“This contract extension is both a reward for those accomplishments, as well as a display of the commitment we are making to build our men’s basketball program into one that can compete for conference championships and make our fans proud.”
The NCAA this week released its Academic Progress Report for the 2007-2008 school year. Wyoming posted its best score on the progress report, making the team eligible for the maximum 13 scholarships, up from 12.
“I believe we are on the verge of accomplishing something special here in a short amount of time,” Schroyer said.
“The nice thing about receiving this extension is it assures me that I will be able to stay here and see the freshman and sophomore classes through to the end of their college careers.
“I’m really proud of the two classes we’ve been able to recruit, and I believe those two classes together have a chance to bring Wyoming basketball back to the top.”
