BINGO, we have a winner. It was a perfect storm of attrition and injuries that screwed us at DL and LB. I can't get over how tiny we look.

Do you remember the triple option spread offense that dc installed against air force that one year? I think he actually made more changes than these guys. Vigen just needs to pass more when the run isn't working - that is alot easier than installing an entire new offense.

He does adjust - but shoot - that was a pretty big adjustment just for that game.

So, one time he made adjustments, and still lost. All other games, no adjustments at all.

Vigen makes adjustments, just way too late in the game to actually matter. He also does play action on 3rd and long, screen pass to the short side on 3rd and 22, runs straight into a box loaded with 9 guys...

Vigen makes adjustments. DC did not. I just seriously question Vigen's play calling in general.

Stanard, I can see why the sheep fans want nothing more to do with him. Players constantly out of position, poor discipline, missed tackles, blown coverages, and those are on the good days.

We want to lay blame on the coordinators only??? Coord calls the play. Blown coverages are players taking themselves out of the play, hence the "blown". Missed tackles? And we have no position coaches that are supposed to be teaching this to each unit? Players out of position? Again...position coach.
Just watching the game I don't think I actually saw a bad defensive play called. But a play not executed correctly? Or the Finley Blunder? Yeah, I saw those. But is that play calling or a conglamoration of youth, missed assignments, missed tackles, etc?

You must have been sitting in our section yesterday. This was our exact conversation.

I actually like the offensive scheme...not the play calling, but the scheme. We are an offseason or two from some fairly mean lines starting to really develop. But, I absolutely hate, despise and otherwise loathe our defensive approach. Some of it is not having the players, but most of it is that it is just a soft scheme generally. We generate no pressure unless the front four can get to the QB. Bend but don't break and keeping everything in front of you is not Cowboy Tough and is predicated on an initial philosophy of retreating.

I watched Utah play last night against Oregon and I really like their approach generally. Their defense forces mistakes and is not passive. Their special teams are aggressive and amazing and their offense goes because they have a big, nasty back and good line play. I hate Whittingham, but have to respect what he does scheme-wise.

Ultimately, I guess I am sick of sitting back and playing it safe. For once, let's take the fight to someone and be the aggressor. If not because of our players, because of our scheme to play with reckless abandon and just surprise the hell out of someone that is expecting vanilla. We are the worse team in Division 1...what is there to lose? This season is a loss and it is time to make it fun. The onsides kick that UND (I think it was UND) got against us was a dagger. Roach used to take chances all the time...it was part of who he was. It was maddening at times, but it was also a lot of fun. I feel like the kid that is bullied for his lunch money...always getting hit and handing over my lunch money. The pent up Ralphie from A Christmas Story has to come out at some time. I am willing to give Bohl another year to get players, get weight and age on exiting players and perhaps get a new coordinator or two (receivers and defensive?)...but this is tough to take.

One last thing, I thought Coffman generally played well. The interceptions hurt...bad...and his unwillingness to get rid of the ball is maddening, as is his penchant for locking onto Gentry. But overall, I thought he played well, especially when he got out of the pocket.
 
LawPoke, excellent thoughts. We should go hyper-aggressive on D. What would it hurt at this point? Maybe we'll actually get some sacks and force some TOs
 
Plus the defense is waiting and not reacting they need to get pressure the QB and stop playing so soft. Missed tackles is still a big issue, don't you learn to tackle in junior high. Plus we never make adjustments in the second half I know we are young but let's get it done. Go Pokes
 
Penalties absolutely killed us. The lack of discipline is all on the staff. Stupid false starts and offsides, not to mention the offensive pass interference calls that absolutely killed our drives. We need to focus on doing basic things.
 
It's a personnel thing. Again, when Army rushes for 600 yards against a team that was beating Wyoming 38-7 at halftime, it's indicative of just how weak our personnel is.

And it's been that way for a number of years. Take Dominic Rufran, for example. Extremely hard worker and a playmaker, but he worked his way up the UW history books in receptions/yardage solely because we were so thin at receiver elsewhere. Obviously, you can credit Josh Doctson leaving for some of that, but if you put Rufran on the 2003 Wyoming Cowboys, he's the #4 receiver at best.

You can run down a variety of positions (starting around 2010) and it's the same story. Having a gamer QB helped mask it for several seasons, but whenever Wyoming played anyone with a pulse, the discrepancy was totally evident.

You may be right, but I thought I read something on him switching to LB. Either way, he is another hole the needs to be replaced. And he was a JC we went after to fill an already existing hole.

Good news folks... Sagarin says the Pokes aren't the worst. There are two FBS teams, New Mexico St. and Charlotte, it ranks lower. The bad news.. It ranks 50 FCS teams better than the Pokes.

Und is about 10 spots higher than the Pokes, but nowhere near being a top 25 FCS team.
 
Today was the first game I have attended this season. As the Cowboys made their way down 22nd st for the "Cowboy Walk" I could nut help but be utterly shocked at how small our team is. I am 6'4, 235 pounds and I can honestly say that I felt bigger than roughly 85% of our team and that is no joke.

At this point there are so many problems with our team and program it's pointless to list them all, but god, we are undersized. Our defense is so, so bland. I hate to be a couch potato coach, but go into Madden 2016 and play the entire game selecting one defensive play, 4-3 Cover 2, and that is our defense.
