I had a dream in which T Boone Pickens wakes up one morning in the not too distant future and decides he needs to give a billion or so to another Cowboy athletic program. I just hope it's not McNeese State.
Twice in the Wyo/Haw game yesterday (and almost a third), low-flying, rugby-style punts hit up-men on the receiving team and were recovered by the punting team. Then I saw it happen in the Boise/SDSU game last night on a SDSU punt. Got me thinking, could a team actually make that a punting strategy? Attempt to drill low, line-drive punts, into the receiving teams blockers up field--the punting version of an on-side kick (sort of)?
I was happy for our players yesterday, especially Brett Smith. He's a good kid, and deserves his place in the Wyoming and MWC record books.
After seeing all the accolades and attention showered on Derek Carr for throwing seven TD's yesterday, it would be nice to see Brett named MWC offensive player of the week. I suspect he'll have to share it with Carr, however.
Did anyone else hear Jim Nantz talk about Danny Woodhead playing at Chadron State, as in "Shad-RON" State? Jeez, Jim, you make it sound like the Nebraska Panhandle is on the French Riviera. No matter. That dude still has the greatest four weeks of work assignments in the history of work: three weekends of the NCAA Tournament and then the Masters.
