You really think a team that probably has a worse Def than WSU or EMU will hold us to 7???
Our Offense has shown the best progress especially with Coffman (one of the top conf QBs); Gentry (best WR numbers in the conf so far); and Hill (Arguably the best rusher in the conf based on performance so far)
Yes, I do.
First, while New Mexico certainly doesn't have an elite defense, neither have any of the teams we have faced so far. If you look at ESPN's Defensive Efficiency Ratings, EMU is #122, WSU is #98, and New Mexico is #100.
Secondly, I agree with your assessment of our offensive skill players. Coffman and Gentry are a solid QB-WR combo and Hill may very well be one of the best RB's in the entire nation, let alone the conference. That said, there are a couple things that still worry me about our offense:
1) I haven't seen our coaches make the necessary in-game adjustments to keep the offense productive throughout an entire game. We heard the "damn 3-4" excuse from the coaches after the UND game and then witnessed WSU completely shut down run game in the 2nd half and we had no response.
2) We don't score unless we get into the end zone. Not having a legitimate FG kicker has lead to us leaving countless points off the board.
3) I expect to see both teams utilize the run game a lot in this game, leading to a short game and less possessions. Less chances to score usually results in less points.
We'll see who is right soon enough, but nothing that happened last Saturday changed my overall perception of this team.
