GTS - WYOMING vs. New Mexico

New Mexico wins 38-24, continuing our trend of "progress" by losing by just a little less than the last game. See, I'm not a total pessimist, either!

The Pokes are a really really bad football team. The Lobos are just really bad. There's enough of a difference there for the Lobos to walk away from War Memorial with a fairly comfortable W.

I do think the guys will pull together to squeak past UNLV to end the season and prevent a winless season. See, I'm not a total pessimist.

You really think a team that probably has a worse Def than WSU or EMU will hold us to 7???
Our Offense has shown the best progress especially with Coffman (one of the top conf QBs); Gentry (best WR numbers in the conf so far); and Hill (Arguably the best rusher in the conf based on performance so far)

Yes, I do.

First, while New Mexico certainly doesn't have an elite defense, neither have any of the teams we have faced so far. If you look at ESPN's Defensive Efficiency Ratings, EMU is #122, WSU is #98, and New Mexico is #100.

Secondly, I agree with your assessment of our offensive skill players. Coffman and Gentry are a solid QB-WR combo and Hill may very well be one of the best RB's in the entire nation, let alone the conference. That said, there are a couple things that still worry me about our offense:

1) I haven't seen our coaches make the necessary in-game adjustments to keep the offense productive throughout an entire game. We heard the "damn 3-4" excuse from the coaches after the UND game and then witnessed WSU completely shut down run game in the 2nd half and we had no response.

2) We don't score unless we get into the end zone. Not having a legitimate FG kicker has lead to us leaving countless points off the board.

3) I expect to see both teams utilize the run game a lot in this game, leading to a short game and less possessions. Less chances to score usually results in less points.

We'll see who is right soon enough, but nothing that happened last Saturday changed my overall perception of this team.

Okay. I appreciate the explanation.
Only one area to disagree with a little-
The one thing about the rushing game at WSU was they made adjustments and did stop us in the third, but before we could make effective changes to the rush we were behind enough that we started throwing more and went away from the run. That or we would shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties and negate an effective run.
But yes, I do see your point.

I just don't think UNM will be effective enough to stop us. They haven't stopped nobody with a pulse either.

In all honesty, how do you foresee us scoring nine points? You aren't banking on three fgs, are you?

Maybe a td, xp and a safety.

I agree with Lakes.

Well, first time for anything.

UNM is bad. Pokes are improving. Pokes at home. They'll win this one. Close...like this score.

Besides, fall is here. Things are changing.

Oline continues to improve. Offense begins to be scary, at least for some teams.

Linebackers and D start to learn to play together. Defense steps up, like the offense did last week.

Our guys are tired of looking like mushy cereal, and play with intensity and focus all 4 quarters. Pokes by 10.

if i see the improvements that i saw against Wazzu up at Pullman then we should be ok, if we regress then everyone will be in for another long afternoon.
I see us squeaking by and taking care of the pesky Lobos
27-24 Cmon Pokes

I agree UW HAS to win this game. But the question is, can they? Losing to UND & Eastern Michigan at home is flat out embarrassing. WSU is a more respectable loss, but still a "bad" one. I don't know, UNM is a bad team, but I haven't seen anything from our team that leads me to believe we can slow down their offense. BUT it's do or die and Bohl could be coaching for his job.

UNM 24
